29th June 2009 Rain Hits Saturday's GamesIt was a frustrating Saturday for the 1st and 3rd teams, who both started well in their games, but were thwarted by the weather, after a heavy thunder storm put paid to any chances of completing their games. The 1st XI took on Southall, and posted an impressive 328-3 from 49 overs thanks in the most part to an 191 run opening partnership from Chris Arul (120) and Dave Hinnigan (91). Only 3 overs of the 2nd innings were completed when the rain struck with Southall on 16-0. The 2nd XI travelled to Enfield, and posted 247-9 batting first, with skipper Tim Beeden top scoring with an impressive 70 and Chris Goddard weighing in with an unbeaten 48. In the end, the rain was the winner again, as the game finished with Enfield on 70-2. The 3rd XI took on Wembley at Hydeside, and despite having them 80-9, allowed them to get away and post 190, and again the weather ruined any chance of a run chase at tea. The 4th XI were the only team to complete their game, beating Hanwell thanks to an inspired spell from Archie McArthur, who picked up 8-48 as the hosts were bowled out for 132 chasing 153. Sunday saw us take on Willsden Green, where we posted 248-9 thanks to 72 from Dave Baker, whilst in reply; the visitors could only manage 234. The 3rd XI slipped up against Regals, despite Alex Coxall continuing a good run of form with the bat, scoring 52 out of 160. 24th June 2009 Vic CookWe are saddened to pass on the news of the death of long standing ECC member and Vice President Vic Cook, who passed away over the weekend. His funeral will be held at New Southgate Crematorium, Brunswick Park Road, N11 1JJ on Monday 6th July at 12:00. It has been requested that instead of flowers, people make a donation to the Wilf Slack Trust if they wish. 22nd June 2009 4 Saturday Wins from 5It was the First XI who provided the cheer for the club this Saturday, as they took on Indian Gymkhana at the Gymkhana club, and came away with 30 points from what it usually one of the toughest fixtures of the season. It was Nissar Abbas who led the way with the ball, taking 5-47 from 27 overs, although he was ably supported by Mark Varley who bowled an impressive 13 over spell to help restrict the hosts to 153 from 55. In reply, we looked to be stuttering but a mature 50 run partnership from Wali Khan (45 not out) and Danny Hare (33 not out) ensured that we got home with 2 overs to spare. The 2nd XI weren't so lucky at home, losing out to a strong looking Wycombe House side after being bowled out for 115. The visitors ended up winning by 7 wickets. The Saturday 3rd XI took on and beat Ealing away from home, whilst the 4th XI had a dramatic finish to their game, beating MTSSC on the last ball of the game by 4 wickets chasing down 231 with Steve Loveday (3-40), Glenn Brown (72 not out) and Justin Benedetti (56) leading the way. The 5th XI took on Osterley, and despite being bowled out for 150 (with Tom Hawkins scoring 52), managed to secure a win by bowling out the visitors for 132. Elsewhere, the Sunday 1st XI travelled to Hemel Hempstead, and gave a good account of themselves, with Basil Akram crashing his way to 120, but despite this, the hosts proved to be a little too strong for our young side, and we lost by 5 wickets with 3 overs to spare. There was more to cheer in the other two Sunday games, as the 2nd XI overcame Ruislip with Safir Butt top scoring with 54 as we chased down 193 with 2 overs and 4 wickets to spare in the Chess Valley League. The Sunday 3rd XI were victorious against Old Parkonians, with youngsters Alex Coxall taking 3-18 and Jack Aylott picking up 56. 16th June 2009 Top 3 Team All WinIt was an excellent Saturday's work for the top 3 teams at Edmonton, with all of them securing wins to maintain their respective pushes for promotion. The 1st XI took on last season's champions, Osterley at Hydeside, and despite the visitors reaching 110-1, managed to restrict them to 220 all out, with Nasser Abbas taking 5 wickets, and Danny Hare picking up 3. In reply, Dave Hinnigan, Adeel Saeed and Nasser Abbas all secured half centuries as we won by 6 wickets with 10 overs to spare. The 2nd XI travelled round to Harrow Town, and in a competitive encounter just about came out on top, restricting the host to 190, with Adam Lord and Ciaran Dodds each picking up 3 wickets. In reply, we chased the total down for the loss of 5, with Safir Butt and Danny Muschamp picking up 50s, to keep us top of Division 3. The 3rd XI also tasted success, at home against Twickenham, chasing down the visitors total, whilst the 4th XI picked up a draw away to North London, with Glenn Brown and Martin Loveday both in the runs for us. 8th June 2009 Website UpdatesApologies for the lack of updates to the website recently, we're hoping to have normal service resumed very soon. In the mean time, we've updated some of the fixtures / results page (there will be more updates to this later in the week). 2nd May 2009 2009 Season UnderwaySaturday the 25th of April signalled the start of the 2009 season at Edmonton CC and the Hydeside faithful were treated to a feast of cricket in glorious sunshine. With the respective league campaigns not starting until the 9th of May, an inter-club match took place on the main square with the stars of the 1st and 2nd XI all on show. The emerging talent that is Chris Arul (96) and the returning Adeel Saeed (59) both shone with the bat, whilst the soon to be emigrating Mark Varley bowled beautifully to bag a 5 wicket haul. On the neighbouring square the 3rd XI were playing host to Highgate. Batting first Highgate were restricted to 170 all out with youngster Jack Lord the pick of the bowlers claiming 3 for 36. In response Edmonton knocked off the runs with comparative ease, losing only 5 wickets in the process. Patel top scored with 53 and the ever reliable Justin Benedetti saw his side home with 44 not out. On Sunday the 2nd XI came up against a strong Crawley Green side. Despite Dave Baker returning figures of 5 for 11 with the ball, the opposition posted a solid total of 228 all out. In response Edmonton were skittled out for only 98 with Khan (34) the only batsman to put up any sort of resistance. The 3rd XI were also on the wrong end of a very one sided affair against Holtwhites. Despite Alex Coxall compiling a solid 58 for the home side, Edmonton were bowled out for a below par 155. The Holtwhites opening pair then set about compiling an impressive unbeaten stance of 156 that would give their side the victory by 10 wickets. This weekend just gone continued on a friendly theme for most, apart from the 1st XI who on Saturday travelled to the Post Office ground in West London to face the Middlesex Tamils in a Middlesex Cup tie. Winning the toss Edmonton elected to put the Tamils into bat and they went about compiling a solid total of 217 all out on a wicket that appeared to have a fair amount in it for the bowlers. This turned out to be 30 or 40 runs too many as Edmonton ended up 180 all out in their run chase. One performance of note was that of promising youngster Kyle Lawrence who returned excellent figures of 5 for 42. At the same time the 2nd XI were playing host to travelling side United Warriors at Hydeside, with injured skipper Tim Beeden watching on from the sidelines and taking time out to have a look at a few players. Electing to bat first and post a substantial total, Edmonton amassed a healthy 261 for 5, thanks on the most part to the positive batting of Ashley Perera (97) and a patient knock from James Hazell (49). The Edmonton bowling attack proved too strong for the United Warriors batsmen and in response they slipped to 97 all out, with the express pace of Khan (4-15) and the consistency of James Weir (3-13) being their undoing. Elsewhere at Hydeside, the 3rd XI posted a mammoth 324 all out against Hatfield with the big hitting Imran Bacchus finally being dismissed on 137. In reply Hatfield had a good go at chasing down Edmonton's total, but eventually finished 53 runs short, being dismissed for 271. The experienced leg spin of wily West Indian Linserd Miller claiming 3 for 40. On Sunday a strong 2nd XI side faced Mayfield on the main square and made the most of the batting friendly conditions to rack up a substantial 285 for the loss of only 4 wickets.Patel (108) top scored and was the main stay of the innings, whilst Adeel Saeed (55) and Shabbir Hussein (50) both provided him with able support. Mayfield never looked likely to chase down such a large score, but finished on 174 for 7 to hold on for a creditable draw, despite the best efforts of skipper Dave Baker who continued his good early season form with the ball to return figures of 3 for 25. Everyone can now look forward to the league campaigns starting this coming weekend, in a season which will hopefully be a successful one for everyone associated with Edmonton CC. 29th April 2009 ECC Kit Link Working AgainIt was brought to our attention yesterday that the link on the website to buy ECC kit wasn't working.
