ENC Sports Evening - 10th July

ENC have announced that they will be holding a Sports / Games Evening on Friday the 10th of July from 7pm onwards at the club. The evening should prove to be excellent fun, and is ideal for adults and children of all ages, as everyone can get involved and have a go at as many sports and games as they like. The idea is to get people along to support the club, have a bit of fun, socialise and turn your hand at a few sports and games that perhaps you've not tried before.

Each event will cost 50p to enter, and you can have as many goes as you like. The winner of each event (for both Adults and Children) will receive a certificate as well as a prize, and there will be other prizes throughout the evening. As always, we will have a full bar service at the club, and there will be food on the evening as well. The outdoor events are likely to include Netball Shooting, Golf (nearest the pin), Cricket (bowl off), Football target practice, whilst later on, we will be running a selection of games in the club, including Darts, Tiddlywinks and several other fun games which are suitable for all ages.

So, why not come down and support ENC - you don't need to be a member to get involved? The evening is likely to be good socially, so please do invite family and friends. For more information, please speak with Kerry, Dave or Alan, or email us at the usual address: Email us

Tournaments and Possible Tour

A couple of dates for your diaries… we have entered a charity sports day including a netball tournament on Saturday the 9th May at Grasshoppers Rugby Ground (a short bus journey from Osterley tube station). This is a ladies only tournament, and hopefully we can get a decent squad out, and have an enjoyable day. For more information on this, you can visit this link: Charity Sports Day. If you're interested in taking part in this tournament, please can you speak with Kerry at training, or email us at the usual address: Email us

Also, we are hoping to organise a mini tour in October, based around the Sci Sports tournament in Great Yarmouth. The tournament itself is residential, and there will be plenty of opportunities for partying and socialising, as well as playing some netball. Again, for more information on this, you can visit the Sci Sports website by following this link Sci Sports Netball Festival. Again, if you're interested, please let us know at training or by email.

If all goes well, there should be some more tournaments and friendly games coming up in the next few months, so please keep an eye on the ENC website for updates.

New Court Marked Out & Club News

Edmonton Netball Club have made a significant investment in their facilities, having a full sized netball court marked out on the multi sports area at the club. The court is much better positioned than our existing courts, being centrally located, allows for better lighting, and more space around the sidelines. The court itself was marked out by Project Playgrounds, last Sunday, and laid out in state of the art ThermoPlast, which comes with a 10 year warranty.

In addition to this, we will be updating the website soon with details of any forthcoming friendlies, tournaments, and also with news of a possible ENC tour later in the year! Also, f any of our players are interested in ENC kit, we can order it for you - we currently have ENC hoodies for £23 and ENC polo shirts for £13. All kit comes personalised with your initials.

Lastly, we're definitely on the look out for New Players - if anyone would like any more information about the club, please feel free to contact us. ENC is a friendly, primarily social netball club, and we welcome all new players irrespective of your experience, standard or fitness. Training on Wednesday nights is a friendly affair, with some fitness, ball skills and match practice included. If you're interested, either contact us through the contacts section, or turn up for 7.30pm on a Wednesday at the club.

Christmas Do, Quiz and Friendlies

Edmonton NC and Enfield Ignatians NC celebrated Christmas early with a lively evening in Enfield Town this Friday just gone, starting in Bar Form, continuing to Charlie's Pizza, and ending up in Taps. It was pleasing to see so many of our regular trainers / players coming along and good to see the EI girls out socialising with the ENC crowd. Hopefully this will be the first of many such evenings, as a good time was had by all. There are some photos on various people's Facebook pages, and we may get around to posting a few pictures on here in due course.

As well as this, Tim Beeden has asked me to post something here about the quiz that he and Gavin Mardell are running at the Club on Friday December 5th for the Cricket Section. It should prove to be an enjoyable evening, and it would be great to see as many of you there as possible to help support the Cricket section, who have been very helpful towards ENC since our inception. The evening is a 7.30pm meet for an 8pm start at a cost of £2 per head. Tables are 6 people, but even if you're on your own or don't have 6 people, we'll be able to find a place for you on one of the tables.

Lastly, Christine MacPhail is hoping to mobilise her work team (CRA International) again for a friendly match on Friday 30th January at the club. The date is yet to be confirmed, but assuming it goes ahead, we will try to get as many ENC and possibly EI players involved as we can. We should do the usual post game social in the bar as well, with food and beers the order of the day. CRA were a mixed team last time, and it's expected that they will be this time, so it will give the ENC boys the chance to get some competitive game time.

ENC Secure Training Deal with Enfield Ignatians

Edmonton Netball Club have confirmed that they have agreed a mutually beneficial deal with Enfield Ignations Netball Club where the two clubs will train together and players from both teams will help out the other team in case of shortages. As a result, training has been much better attended over the last few weeks, and a couple of ENC players have expressed an interesting in signing up to play league netball with EI in the Hertford Saturday League. As well as this, it is hoped that the increase in player base will allow both clubs to compete in more tournaments, play regular friendlies, and share social and fundraising events. As always, and prospective new players are welcome to come along to the club for training on a Wednesday evening from 7.15pm, full directions can be found in the location section of the website.

Men Victorious in Inter Club Game

It was the men who came out victorious for the second year running to take the spoils in the inter-club Ladies vs. Men game this Friday just gone. Captained by David Smith, the Men took the lead early on and just about managed to hang onto it for the duration, despite the best efforts of a spirited Ladies team led by Kerry McDermott. The weather conditions, for the second year running were pretty awful, but that didn't detract from the enjoyment of those present at the game, and there was a good turnout for the post-game social in the clubhouse. The teams were as follows Ladies (from): C. Davies, N. Davies, Dominy, McDermott, Waller, K. Arrowsmith, G. Ridley, Bunyan. Men: Cooper, R. Ridley, Smith, Barnard, J. Arrowmith, Beeden, Mardell. A big thanks goes to Christine MacPhail for umpiring the whole court, to Yvonne Goddard for scoring, and to Tim Beeden for arranging and collecting the food.

Upcoming Games for ENC

Just a brief update to confirm a couple of upcoming fixtures / dates for ENC. Starting with Friday July 11th, we have our annual Ladies vs. Men game at the club, which will start from 7.30pm. The question everyone would like to see answered is: Can the Ladies avenge their defeat by the Men from last season? Certainly if recent training sessions are anything to go by, we should have quite a competitive game on our hands this time around. As will all ENC games, spectators are encouraged, and we'll be having some kind of social at the club afterwards, although details are yet to be confirmed, so watch this space. Also, on Sunday 3rd August, we have a mixed tournament at Kennington Park, Oval, which is being organised by ENC committee member Christine MacPhail. Registration for the tournament will begin at 10am and games will go on until 7pm. Afterwards, there will be a BBQ, pub quiz and awards ceremony at the Black Sheep Pub, which is just across the road from the courts. Detailed discussions on all things ENC, including squads for the Oval Tournament, and the Ladies vs. Men game can be found by logging onto our ENC Web Forum.

Karaoke Evening a Success

Saturday 24th was the date, Edmonton Sports Club was the venue, and the event that everyone was talking about was the inaugural ENC Karaoke Evening. With performances ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous, it certainly seemed that a good time was had by all. Some very amusing photos from the evening can be found in the Photo Gallery section of the website. Also, we'd like to thank everyone who gave up their time on the night, and leading up to the event - without your help, the evening couldn't have taken place. The only question now is: when is the next one taking place? Detailed discussions on all things ENC, including the Karaoke Evening can be found by logging onto our ENC Web Forum.

ENC vs. Seven Heaven

This Friday just gone saw Edmonton Netball Club take on South London based side Seven Heaven in a Ladies friendly fixture at Edmonton Sports Club. The game, which was against ENC player Christine MacPhail's midweek side was only the second competitive game that ENC had played as a Ladies team. Given that the last such game was well over a year ago, and only one of the players that played in that game was on the teamsheet this time around, it was very much uncharted terriotory for the club. The result, a respectable 38-22 defeat was testament to how far we've come as a club, and there were some excellent individual performance all over the court. It just remains for me to say thanks to Seven Heaven for giving us the game, and for sticking around for a few beers afterwards, and that we look forward to a re-match at your place in the near future. Photos from the game can be found in the Photo Gallery section of the website.

ENC to Compete in Ladies Tournament

It's been confirmed in the last few days that Edmonton Netball Club will be taking part in a ladies netball tournament at London Wasps RFC in Acton, West London on Saturday May 10th. The event, which is hosted by The Church (www.thechurch.co.uk - a London based Aussie & Kixi expat club / bar), should prove a good test of how far ENC has come, as well as being good fun for those attending. ENC supporters are encouraged along to cheer the team on if they can spare an afternoon, and it's been confirmed that there will be no charge for supporters. If anyone would like any more info about the tournament, or the club in general, please drop us an email at kerry@edmontonnetballclub.org or call 07795 174 005.

More Dates Announced

Following hot on the heels of the news that Edmonton Netball Club will be playing Seven Heaven on May 16th (see below), we have announced that they will be a return mixed friendly against CRA on April 11th, which will be away from home and as usual, a 7.30pm start. Depending on facilities, we're planning to get changed, and have a few beers and some food afterwards with our oppo. If anyone would like any more info about the game, or the club in general, please drop us an email at alan@edmontonnetballclub.org or call 07973 506642.

In addition to this, there will be a Karaoke evening, a Ladies vs. Men game / social and hopefully a number of mixed and ladies tournaments later in the season (more details to follow on here nearer the time). The Ladies vs. Men game follows on from last season's game, and should prove to be an enjoyable and hopefully well supported event (and surely it can't be as wet as it was last year!)

Our full 2008 calendar looks like this at the moment:

  • 16th May - ENC vs. Seven Heaven (Ladies)
  • 24th May - ENC Karaoke Evening
  • 27th June - ENC Ladies vs. Men

12th February 2008

ENC Record First Win

Last Friday, an enjoyable friendly encounter with CRA saw Edmonton run out victors 19-4 - the first win for the club. The game saw some good netball played by both sides, as well as lots of running from the respective centres. The evening was capped off by a well supported social in the clubhouse, with both teams competing well in the eating and drinking stakes. Hopefully we should be able to arrange more evenings like this in future, and already have a couple of prospective friendly fixtures lined up for the next couple of months. We're hoping to have a few photos online from the game shortly, so keep an eye on the gallery section of the website.

2nd January 2008

ENC Friendly vs. CRA (25th January)

Edmonton Netball Club have announced that they will be playing a friendly game on Friday the 25th of January from 7.30pm. The game, against CRA will take place in the multi-sports area at Hydeside, and hopefully will prove to be well supported. If all goes well, we should have some pictures from the game up on the website shortly afterwards. As with the last friendly match, we'll be heading to the bar afterwards for drinks and pizza, and if last time is anything to go by, a good time should be had by all. If anyone would like any more info about the game, or the club in general, please drop us an email at alan@edmontonnetballclub.org or call 07973 506642.
