Wednesday 28th March 2007 vs. Troy Report by: David Smith Edmonton Netball Club played their first friendly on Wednesday against North London league side Troy. Edmonton's team was boosted by the participation of goal machine Kim Goddard who we must thank in part for arranging this historic friendly for us. The game finally got under way at just past 8 0'clock in a reduced game of 12 minutes a quarter with Edmonton entering the game with a little trepidation and hoping for a decent result to keep recent interest high. With a number of supporters on the sidelines, not least our chairman Joyce Barnard, the pressure was on the girls to put in a decent performance and this is exactly what they did. After going 2 down within a minute it looked as though it could be a long night but with some good passing and shooting in the circle and some resolute defending from Kathy and Angela, Edmonton began to get a stranglehold in the game and eventually went in only 4 behind at the first break. A good start against experienced league opposition. As the game developed the younger members of our squad began to impose themselves against more experienced and older players and helped to make the game an even encounter. For the final three quarters Edmonton found themselves losing by only a couple of goals, eventually finishing the game 10 behind. When taking into account the fact that Edmonton had never played together this was tremendous performance and we can only hope that we continue to improve.
