The evening I'm sure will prove to be a massive success, following on from the superb Caribbean night during cricket week. As well as a caribbean disco, there will be some fantastic food on offer, and at the bargain price of just £10 for tickets, you'd have to be mad not to come along and bring some sunshine into your festive season. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any committee member, or by emailing us at the normal address. Doors open at 8pm, and tickets are going fast, so don't delay! 31st October 2005 Gallery Updated with New Square & Changing RoomsThe gallery section has just been updated with photos showing the latest developments on and off the field at Hydeside, where new changing rooms are being built, and a new square is being laid. I'm sure you'll agree that the progress so far has been pretty impressive on both counts, and goes a long way to show how far we've come along as a club over the past year or two. As always, the pictures can be found in the Photo Gallery section of the website. A big thank you to Biffo from Norsemen for taking the time to provide us with the photos - thanks very much fella! 7th October 2005 Averages Updated & Presentation Evening (14/10/05)Just a brief post to let you all know the the final season 2005 averages have been posted in the Averages Section. As always, a massive thank you to Tony Brown for giving up his time to compile these stats - it really does take a lot of work. Perhaps those of you that look at the averages throughout the season would like to buy Tony a beer for his troubles - I'm sure it would be appreciated. Before I sign off, can I remind anyone that may have forgotten, next Friday the 14th October is the presentation evening for the season just gone. It's really shaping up to be a superb night, with players from all XI's as well as their friends & family welcome along to support the club and have a great time. There will be a disco, provided by the legendary DJ Camber, a buffet provided by the legendary Beryl Smyth, and tickets can be purchased on the evening at a cost of £10. People will be getting there from 7.30pm onwards, but as always the bar will be open earlier if you fancy an early pint. 29th September 2005 New Developments Aplenty at HydesideI'm sure you'll all agree that it's high time we had a brief update on the developments currently taking place at the club, now that the season has finally finished. Firstly, the new square - situated on the Grocers ground, behind the main square scorebox - was dug out for laying on Tuesday. The contractors came back today to lay the new top dressing and grass seed, which is the exactly same material used to lay the main square, so if all goes to plan; the new pitches will play very well for years to come. The cost of the new square, which is expected to be just under £5000 will be met jointly by the ECB and Edmonton Cricket Club, and not only increases the number of fixtures we can get on both a Saturday and a Sunday, it also means increased revenue for the club, and less expenditure on hiring 'home' pitches. Those of you who have been at the club long enough to remember when we played Saturday games on the Grocers ground will testify that not only was it more interesting to have 3 home games happening on the same day, but it's better for the club that all home games are played at Hydeside. The final benefit is for the sports club in general: there will now be 66 cricketers using the home facilities on Saturday and Sunday which will mean more bar takings and an even more lively post match atmosphere. Lastly, the new changing rooms are coming along rapidly, and it's been mentioned that with a bit of luck, and good weather, the roof could go up this coming week, which is something to look out for. We're hoping to have the changing room section of the gallery updated again soon, so watch this space for more details. 20th September 2005 Club Presentation Evening - Friday 14th OctoberIn a break from tradition of recent seasons, the awards for the season just gone will not be presented at the club supper, there will be an all new presentation evening at the club on Friday 14th October. Tickets are priced at £10 per head, and can be purchased on the door, and there will be a buffet and disco afterwards - all club members and guests are more than welcome to attend. This event not only offers an excellent opportunity to support the club, it also gives us a chance to have another get together outside of the crricket season, so I hope that it will be well supported. For more details, you can email us at the usual address. 13th September 2005 Photos from Sunday 1st XI Night Out PublishedIt was a cracking night... at least it was until we were dragged off to Eros, rather than Rafferties, and the £165 fines money collected throught the season was well spent on the finest Indian Food and Indian Beer money can buy - but what really did happen at the exclusive End of Season Sunday 1st XI dinner? We've teamed up with Hello Magazine to offer you lucky readers a few exclusive shots of the drama of the evening as it unfolded, including pictures of some of the winners of the much coverted awards. As always, these photos can be found in the Photo Gallery section of the website. 9th September 2005 Final Fantasy League Standings OnlineContrary to what was stated in the update from earlier on in the week, it's not taken us very long at all to get the final Edmonton Cricket Club Fantasy League tables published. As always, we're indebted to Tony Brown for his hard work in compiling this, so a massive 'thank you' to Tony! It will probably come as no major suprise to hear that the Fantasy table looks a lot like it did when it was last published, with Stavros Elia's 'Wonders' heading the pack, but Dave Smith's 'Banking on the Big Boys' managed to get within 100 in second place. The top three is completed by Kevin Lawrence's 'Tonkers XI', and he also secured 4th place with his second entry. It's also interesting to see where the points have been scored, and it will probably come as no suprise to hear that Anil Sharma heads the pack, given that he had such an outstanding season with both bat and ball. Also included are fantasy points for pretty much every player at the club (not just those availible for selection in the Fantasy League), which makes interesting reading. Lastly, a word on last place, which Alan Baranrd secured (somewhat deliberately) with his 'Worse Than Varley's Lot', who were an impressive 140 points adrift at the bottom of the pile, thanks to some real superstars. You can view the Fantasy League tables in the Averages Section of the website, where you will also find fully updated catches and stumpings as promised. 7th September 2005
4 Wins & 2 League Titles - What a Weekend! What a fantastic weekend this was for the club, as the 2nd XI & 4th XI secured their respective league titles with emphatic wins, the 1st XI beat the newly crowned champions in a nail-biter at Hydeside, and the 5th XI picked up a maximum points haul, thanks to Ickenham being unable to complete their fixture. Starting with the 1st XI, who were at home to Osterley, and expecting a tough game after last weeks performance, they were perhaps a little surprised to record 320 from 54.3, but with almost everyone contributing with the bat, a high score was always on the cards. For the record, Dave Hinnigan scored a solid 42 in a 90 run partnership with Ses Jayasena, Alan Barnard played a watchful innings for 75, and wicketkeeper batsman Adam Herron plundered a destructive 98. In reply, Osterley were always in the hunt, and eventually succumbed for 295 with 3 overs to spare, thanks to Matty Worton's 4 wickets in his last regular game for the 1st XI, and 2 wickets in 2 balls from Ciaran Dodds. Seamers Archer Cornwall and Danny Hare also deserve a mention for two very well controlled spells to keep the pressure up. The 2nd XI travelled round the North Circular to Finchley, to take on Barclays at the Wilf Slack ground, and restricted them to 174 thanks to 4 wickets from the experienced left arm spinner Gaffour Chaudry, and 3 from Stavros Elia. In reply, it was fitting that Anil Sharma should score 50, and in doing so, took his individual Saturday league runs tally past the 1000 mark - a quite remarkable feat, as the E-Unit eased past their total with minimal fuss. Jilesh Pattni also chipped in with a valuable unbeaten 54. The 3rd XI, who were at home to Twickenham recovered from a horrendous position of 60-7 to post a competitive 241, thanks to an unbeaten 93 from recently promoted Alan Lord. In reply, they couldn't take the last two wickets, and had to settle with a winning draw. The 4th XI, away to Lohana, and faced with a tough wicket skittled the hosts for just 132, to put themselves in the box seat, but an England style collapse meant that the game went down to the wire. It was tough for skipper Kevin Fursse to watch, but we scraped home for the loss of 8 to deservedly secure the 1987 League Division Two title. Sunday saw the resumption of the Chess Valley league, and the 1st XI travelled round to Ickenham to face a strong looking opposition. Batting first, all the senior batsmen managed to get a start, but were unable to kick on beyond 30, as we struggled up to a less than competitive 170 all out. In reply, it was never going to be hard from the home batsmen, as they eased to 155-3, but David Sans, on his 1st XI debut produced the goods, and brought about a few last minute flutters, as his two wickets in two balls led to home batsmen padding up frantically. Sadly it was not to be, as we lost by 5 wickets. The 2nd XI, at home to the same opponents had a relatively easy time of things, bowling the visitors out for just 118, thanks to an impressive 6-22 from Andrew Thomas, and then chasing down with ease for the loss of just 3 to keep the pressure on the 2nd XI Division 1 leaders. As always, please see the Reports Section of the website for more details. 6th September 2005 Averages UpdatedIt's time for another averages update on the website, courtesy of the ever hard working Tony Brown (thanks Tony!). As you can see, we've still not managed to update the Fantasy League table just yet, but it's something that were working on, and will have resolved soon. To view the latest averages, all you need to do is surf to the Averages Section of the website. A final update to the averages will be published after the season closes at the end of the month, where we're also hoping to have wicketkeeping and fielding dismissals to boot. 1st September 2005 2nd XI Secure PromotionWell, it's been an interesting week for the club this one, with the 2nd XI leading the way in their push to win the title, taking on Ickenham at Hydeside, and securing a winning draw, thanks to Anil Sharma. This secures them a remarkable 4th promotion in 4 seasons under the leadership of Kevin Lawrence, and means that they will be playing their cricket in the 2nd division of the County League next season. The less said about the 1st XI's exploits away to Southall the better, as they were comprehensively beaten by a team that were taking the game a little more seriously than we were. The 3rd XI also slipped up, as did the 5ths, but the 4th XI regained some credibility against South Hampstead in the penultimate fixture of their season. It's been a bumper week for reports, with 2 5th XI masterpieces from David Sans, and a brief review of the 1st and 2nd XI games of the weekend from Alan Barnard and Chris Goddard respectively. As always, these can be found in the Reports Section of the website. Also, when we can, we'll have the normal results service restored, and hopefully some averages updated, as well as the final standings of the long awaited fantasy league. As the season is winding down now, there will be fewer updates to the website, but we're hoping to have everything in order for the end of the season, and a few bulletins over the closed season on some of the off the field developments that are happening at Hydeside. 23rd August 2005 Reports Posted & Brief UpdateWe have a couple of reports for you sent to me today by Mark Varley (Saturday 1st XI vs Indian Gymkhana for this weekend just gone), and David Sans (Saturday 5th XI vs. Harrow the weekend before last). As usual, these can be located in the Reports Section of the website. Unfortunately, we don't as yet have any score details, as the scorebooks have been submitted to have the averages updated, but this should be rectified by as soon as tomorrow night if all goes well. What I do know was that it was a fantastic weekend for the 2nd XI, and the 4th XI, who both secured promotion from their respective leagues - the 2nd XI's feat made all the more remarkable by the fact that it's their 4th straight promotion, testament to the fantastic job that Skipper Kevin Lawrence, and his team have done. The 3rd XI and 1st XI struggled a little this weekend, both drawing games that were very winnable, whilst the 5th XI slipped to a defeat, but were content to field a side containing 6 Edmonton colts, boding well for the future of the club. On Sunday, the 2nd XI manged to win at a canter against Chingford to strengthen their Chess Valley League title credentials. Again, as soon as we have the scores, I'll post a more comprehensive update. 22nd August 2005

Edmonton Achieve Coveted Clubmark AwardEdmonton CC staged the Middlesex East area Under 10 festival on Wednesday 10th August. Seven teams participated and the boys and girls who took part were presented with a certificate by David Holland of the Middlesex Cricket Board, David Holland also took the opportunity to officially congratulate and present Edmonton with a certificate to confirm the Club receiving Clubmark Accredited Status from the English Cricket Board (ECB). Edmonton are one of the first three clubs in Middlesex to achieve Clubmark status (The other two being Potters Bar and North London). The principles behind achieving accreditation are important and ensure that clubs are in a position to continue developing and delivering high quality community cricket to current and future members. Clubmark also recognises the work clubs are doing in adopting the ECBs Child Welfare 'Safe Hands' Policy. Other season highlights include, the under 13's, who are becoming a very talented side, reaching the league play off's. The side is skippered by Chris Arul who plays for Middlesex Colts. The team to watch next season will be the under 10's, who have shown lots of potential under the guidance of Dick Owen. 17th August 2005
Rain, Rain and More RainIt was rain all the way this weekend just gone, with all games on Saturday being rained off, some might argue fortuitously for the top two XI's, as they were struggling in their respective games. The 3rd XI and 4th XI will be more disappointed as they looked to improve their league positions against lower placed opposition. Sunday was also a disappointment but for different reasons with the 1st XI falling foul of a strong-looking Southgate side in the Chess Valley league. The visitors posted a massive 326 from 45, despite the best efforts of Anil Sharma and Randy Noel who bowled economically, and took 5 wickets between them. In reply, Edmonton could only manage 271 with Alan Barnard top scoring with 52. The Sunday 2nd XI saw that it wasn't all doom and gloom as they recorded a win away at Kenton, whilst the 3rd XI didn't have a fixture. 12th August 2005 Sunday 1st XI Report AddedJust a brief note to let you know that the report section of the website has been updated with Adam Herron's account of the comfortable win for the Sunday 1st XI this weekend just gone against Finchley in the Chess Valley league. As always, see the Reports Section for more details. 10th August 2005 1987 Tables UpdatedApologies for the long wait, but we've now added the latest (well, July 30th) 1987 League Tables to the website, for you to digest / enjoy. It gives a pretty healthy indication of the progress that the lower league XI's have achieved this season when compared to the last few years, with the 3rds and 4ths top of their respective tables. Credit must go to Linserd Miller and Kevin Fursse for the good work they've done in turning round the fortunes of both these teams in the last few seasons, and also a big shout to David Sans, who has achieved so much more already in his second season in charge of the 5th XI than he did last time around. Clich here for the 1987 Tables (this is in Microsoft Excel format). 10th August 2005 Averages & Reports PostedA long awaited treat for all those closet anoraks out there, the averages have been updated as of the weekend before last. To keep you in the picture, Tony Brown has had a few work problems recently, but has managed to compile the averages using new software on his home PC. Unfortunately, we don't have highest scores / best bowling or any fielding stats, but we'll be looking to rectify this in the weeks to follow. Sadly, at the moment we don't have the Fantasy Table updated, but we're doing everything we can to put this right, and hope to have normal service resumed before too long. On the reports side, we have details online of the top two teams for this weekend courtesy of Alan Barnard (1st XI vs. Hanwell) and Chris Goddard (2nd XI vs/ North Middlesex). It's been a bumper week for reports this week, with Linserd Miller posting updates from the 3rd XI's last two games in July against Brondesbury and Acton. As always, see the Reports Section for more details. 9th August 2005
Firsts and Seconds Win at the DoubleIt was yet another successful weekend for Edmonton, as 3 out of 5 Saturday teams recorded victories in their respective leagues. Starting with the 1st XI, who took on strugglers Hanwell in Division 1 of the Trailfinders Middlesex Championship, and successfully chased the visitors 179 to secure 30 precious points, thanks to a patient 43 from Alan Barnard. Earlier Tony Willett (4-32) and Randy Noel (3-79) had done the bulk of the damage with the ball. The 2nd XI travelled to North Middlesex, and were once again indebted to Anil Sharma for a comfortable victory, the Indian taking a stunning 7-59 and then hammering 56 as we chased down 150 for the loss of 5. The 3rd XI had to settle for a draw away to MTSSC, whilst the 4th XI eased to victory against North London, thanks to an unbeaten 100 from Dave Baker, and 52 from Paul Hare. The 5th XI slipped up against a strong looking Indian Gymkhana side, despite Sam Miller's impressive 64 in their 200 all out. It was a Chess Valley Sunday again, and the 1st XI flew the flag against Finchley, restricting them to 157 all out, with Randy Noel taking 4-22. In reply we eased past the total inside of 30 overs thanks in the most part to Anil Sharma's 61. The 3rd XI slipped up against Harringey Libraries, despite posting an imposing 266-9 from 40 overs. See the Reports Section for more details. 3rd August 2005 Reports PostedWe have a couple of reports now posted from last weekends rain-affected games for your perusal. Starting with the 1st XI's somewhat farcial trip to British Airways, where professional lightweight Alan Barnard captures in writing, the comedy that was always likely after a night on the tiles the day before. Part time wicketkeeper and full time novelist Chris Goddard also chips in with an account of the drawn match against Winchmore Hill for the 2nd XI. As is always the case, you can check out the reports in the aptly named Reports Section of the website. 2nd August 2005
Rain Wins in Drawn WeekendThis weekend just gone really was one that was dominated by the weather, as the 1st XI's game with British Airways was abandoned with just one ball being bowled in the second innings. This was after Randy Noel had excelled with 4-77 from 16 as Airways posted a formidable 288-8 from 55. The 2nd XI had to settle for a rain-affected losing draw against local rivals Winchmore Hill with Anil Sharma the only real performer with 40. The 3rd XI were up against it after Acton posted an enormous 329-8, Vikram Maish taking 3-60, and only able to reply with 184-5 thanks to 54 from Vince Drayton, and an unbeaten 53 from James Hazell. The 4th XI were the only side to record a win on Saturday, posting 190 thanks to a steady 37 from Andy Cooper, then bowling out MTSSC for just 108, with Steve Loveday once again proving to be the destroyer, taking an outstanding 5-32. The 5th XI posted a competitive 208 against Shepherds Bush, with Chris Barnes top scoring with 58, but could not stop the hosts from chasing down, despite three wickets from Anan Rooban. Sunday proved to be a better day, despite the 1st XI's trip to Mill Hill Village being cancelled the night before due to a waterlogged pitch. The 2nd XI, boosted by a few 1st XI names looking for games eased past Harrow thanks to 3-28 from Adeel, and 47 from Adam Herron. The 3rd XI beat Harrow Weald in a 40 over friendly thanks to 95 from Nick Martin-Clarke, 63 from Glen Brown, and 3-14 from Archie McArthur. 26th July 2005
1st XI Set the StandardIt was a mixed weekend for the Edmonton Saturday teams, with 2 wins, 2 draws and a defeat for the 5 league XIs, but despite not recording the success of previous weeks, the senior teams have consolidated their position in their respective tables. Starting with the 1st XI, who were hosting Alexandra Park at Hydeside, put into bat, they were solidly anchored by David Hinnigan, who tallied up an impressive unbeaten 88, whilst Adam Herron crashed a quickfire 56 in the total of 240-4. In reply, AP never really got going, and were bowled out with 9 overs remaining, thanks mostly to Matty Worton (4-34), although Gavin Mardell and Archer Cornwall both chipped in with 2 wickets apiece. The 2nd XI travelled round to Bessborough, and struggled to control the game fielding first, despite Stav Elia's late 5-62. In reply, Edmonton stuttered to 160-9, but hung on to preserve an unbeaten record stretching back to the 3rd game of the season. The 3rd XI were involved in a bizarre match against Brondesbury, which always threatened to run out of time, due to a late start. Linserd Miller took an impressive 4-41, and Pakistani import Adnam hit 71, but in the end we were 12 runs and 4 overs short of a win. The 4th XI were set a huge 289 at Home to Perivale Phoenicians, but set about the run chase admirably, with Dave Baker (122) and Waheed Ahmed (92*) the main contributors as we chased down for the loss of just 3 wickets. The 5th XI couldn't match the batting performance of the week previous, and had Bala Gokul to thank as he contributed 58 to the total of 141. Unfortunately, it was not to be, as Peshawar eased past David Sans' side for the loss of just 1 wicket. That's pretty much all there is to report, as Sunday's games were a washout. You can read reports for this Saturday's games in the Reports Section. Also, weather permitting; we should have some updates posted later in the week for the Cricket Week fixtures. 25th July 2005 Club Announces New Multi Sports AreaFollowing on from the fantastic news that the building work on the new changing rooms is well underway, courtesy of a grant from the Football Foundation charity, we have been bosted by the news that provisionally, the overflow car park will be converted to double up as a new Multi Sports Facility. The facility itself is likely to be tailored towards cricket, and will improve our coaching facilities considerably, expecially for the most junior sides, where soft ball cricket is often played. As soon as we have more details, they'll be posted, in the mean time, don't forget to check out the progress of the new chaning rooms in the photo diary located in the Gallery section of the website. 20th July 2005 Gallery Update, Reports & MoreThe Photo diary of the new changing rooms has been updated with shots from this weekend, showing how far the foundation work has progressed. Also, we have a report from last weekends game for the 5th XI against Perrivale Phoenicians, courtesy of David Sans, where they almost won for the 3rd time this season. This can be found as usual in the Reports Section of the website. In addition to this, Adam Herron has begun to write a Legends of Edmonton column, where he picks a member of the E-Unit to write an extended profile for. First up are Veteran seamer Archer Cornwall, and Sri Lankan run machine Ses Jyaysena. You can find these reports in the Player Profiles section of the website. 18th July 2005
Win Bonanza on Both Days for EdmontonThis really was a fantastic weekend for the club, with 6 wins and a draw from 7 league fixtures, with the 1st XI returning to winning ways in both the Saturday Trailfinders Middlesex Championship, and the Chess Valley League on Sunday. Starting with the Saturday 1st XI, who took on Old Actonians in a heated affair at Hydeside, Actonians rattled up 253-7 from 54.5, and Edmonton chased down with three balls to spare, thanks to a blistering 96 from Venki, and a quickfire 62 from Alan Barnard. The 2nd XI eased past the same opposition in West London, courtesy of 4-52 from Rambo Thomas, and an unbeaten 101 from Indian run-machine Anil Sharma, as we chased down 166 with relative ease. The 3rd XI picked up the points as Teddington were unable to field a team, whilst the 4th XI racked up 268 against local rivals Winchmore Hill, and bowled them out for 210, thanks to leading wicket taker Archie McArthur's 4-53. The 5th XI were in trouble at 100-6, but recovered to score 243-7 thanks to 113 from Tony Kershaw, and an unbeaten 66 from Bill Bilimoria. The veteran seamer also recorded figures of 3-33 as they had Perrivale Phoenicians on the ropes at 173-9, but couldn't quite complete the first ever 5 teams Saturday clean sweep in Edmonton history. On Sunday, the 1st XI fielded a very strong looking team in the Chess Valley encounter with top of the table Abbots Langley, and Mark Varley was in top form to take 4-23, as the visitors were bowled out for 160. The Edmonton reply was clinical, Anil Sharma (88*), and Venki (74*) sharing a 164 run partnership in 19.1 overs, as we won by 10 wickets. The 2nd XI, in the same competition, eased past Ruislip, thanks to 101 from Vince Drayton, and 5-15 from Linserd Miller. The 3rd XI finished with a solid draw against Goodwill Wanderers, with 46 from Bala Gokul, and 3-15 from Liam Barker the pick of the performances. REPORTS. 14th July 2005 Cricket Week Update & More Reports PostedCan I remind anyone wishing to play in any of the 5 fixtures in Cricket Week (from July 25th - 29th) that they should speak to Colin Turner, or any committee member as soon as possible to be considered for selection. All games are frendlies, and the week culminates in the Caribbean themed BBQ night on the Friday, which is likely to be a cracking evening. Onto the reports, and this time, they come courtesy of Pat Carr, who recounts the 2nd XI's home draw against Barclays CC from June 2nd, whilst Dave Sans adds his thoughts on the 5th XI's game against Wembley from this Saturday just gone, where sadly we were defeated. As always, take a look at the Reports Section for more details. 13th July 2005 New Changing Rooms UpdateAs I'm sure most of you are well aware by now, constuction work has started on the new changing rooms block. Although this is at a very early stage, the scale of the project has impressed most of us, as well as the sense of pride that the club is going places, and that organisations such as the Football Foundation are prepared to invest considerable amounts of money in it's development. In a joint venture with David Simpson of Norsemen FC, we've decided to set up a dedicated photo gallery, tracking the building work, as it progresses on a week to week basis. You can find the gallery here, or just follow the links to the Photo Gallery section on the left hand side of this page. 13th July 2005 Reports and AveragesNow online are a couple of reports that were submitted to me recently for last weekend's games. In the Reports Section, we now have the 3rd XI's win over Twickenham thanks to skipper Linsed Miller, and a succinct version of events from the 5th XI's defeat at the hands of Ickenham, courtesy of David Sans. Meenwhile, some of you may be wondering why the averages section has not been updated recently, and perhaps more of you have been wondering what's going on with the fantasy league. Tony Brown, who kindly compiles both of these sets of stats, giving up a lot of his free time in the process, is hoping to have something workable in the next week or so. In the mean time, can I ask everyone to please bear with us, be patient and watch this space for updates. 12th July 2005
Two Impressive Draws in the HeatA mixed bag of a weekend this one, with the top two XI's securing some respectable results, against strong opposition, without winning either encounter. Starting with the 1st XI, who travelled around to Harrow Recreation Ground to take on high-flying Harrow St. Marys in the Trainlfinders Middlesex Championship. Batting first, we were restricted to 194 thanks in the most part to Venki, who was ably supported by Ses Jayasena, and David Hinnigan. A gritty display in the field saw us take 8 Harrow wickets as they stuttered to 146-9, with Mark Varley (3-42) the pick of the bowling. The 2nd XI survived an early scare against Harrow Town in the Middlesex County League at Hydeside, after Asif Padhani and Jilesh Pattini steadied the ship with impressive fifties, as we closed on 212-9. In reply, Harrow finished on 150-6, with 'Rambo' Thomas impressing with 5-59.The 3rd XI maintained their position at the top of the 1987 League pile thanks to a straightforward win over Ealing, as Kirk Brown bagged 4-25, and Errol Crawford weighed in with an unbeaten 96, as we chased down the required 198 for the loss of just 3. John Hinnigan and Glen Brown both posted unbeaten 50's for the 4th XI in their home win over Kenton, as we chased down 190 for the loss of 5. The 5th XI suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Wembley, despite Bala Gokul taking 3-51. On Sunday, the 1st XI's Ibex Cup run came to an end with a whimper against a strong Finchley outfit, their 294 proving too big an ask, despite the best efforts of Venki and Alan Barnard, who both registered very different half centuries as we finished up on 224-9 from 45 overs. The 2nd XI recorded a huge 279-6 against Clifton, thanks to 133 from Faisul, and an unbeaten 61 from James Hazell. The 3rd XI proved to be the John Hinnigan and Glen Brown show, as they posted 94 and 113* respectively, Archie McArthur also took 3-19 as the game headed for a draw. REPORTS. 7th July 2005 Subscriptions ReminderA reminder to Edmonton players across all teams that your annual subscriptions to the club are now due for payment immediately. Whilst the majority of players have paid their subs, there are still a handful of players that have yet to pay. We'd like to take this opportunity to ask any playing member that has yet to pay in full to get in touch with Tony Brown (or any committee member) at their earliest convenience to arrange payment. Any player that has not paid will not be considered for selection from the weekend of Saturday 17th July, and captains are reminded that it's their responsibility to spread this message to their teams. 6th July 2005 Reports PostedApologies for the lack of updates to the site over the last week, things have been pretty hectic, however normal service should be resumed from now on. There's been a couple of reports to catch up on, with the 1st XI's draw against Southall, courtesy of Matt Worton and the 3rd XI's win against Richmond from Linserd Miller. REPORTS. 5th July 2005
3rd XI and 4th XI Fly the ECC FlagThe 1st XI went down to top of the table Osterley on Saturday, batting first they were bowled out for 196 with skipper Tony Willett scoring (48), but Osterley never really looked in trouble passing the E's total for the loss of 6 wickets. The 2nd XI could not quite get the final Barclays wicket but managed to stay top with a winning draw, batting first and scoring 249-6 with good contributions from Anil Sharma (72) Pat Carr (44) and Tim Beeden (40). Barclays finished 151-9 with the last pair holding on for 8 overs. The 3rd XI stayed top with a good win over Twickenham, bowling the opposition out for 160 with Randy Noel taking 5-36. Errol Crawford (52) saw them home. The 4th XI also won to keep on top of their division. Some good batting from Micky Billson (56) Ray Bullen(44) and Dave Baker (40) saw them to 242 All Out. A good team effort saw Lohana bowled out for 190 with all the bowlers taking wickets. Sunday saw the 1st XI slip to a disappointing defeat to Preston in the Chess Valley League. Despite the best efforts of veteran seamer Archer Cornwall, who collected 4-11, Edmonton slumped to 92 in response to the hosts 193-9. The 2nd XI however impressed in the same competition, with Faisel scoring 112, and Adeel and Hiram Braithwaite both taking 4 wickets in a comprehensive victory over Winchmore Hill. REPORTS. 27th June 2005
Mixed Weekend for EdmontonA fairly decent weekend for the E-Unit with the 1st XI securing a good draw despite missing a few regulars, Venki (62) and Dave Hinnigan (68*) saw them to 226-8 . Southall replied with 155-5, 3rd XI regular Dave Baker keeping them in check with a good spell of bowling. The 2nd XI failed to win for the first time in 5 matches having to settle for a losing draw, batting first on a difficult wicket we scored 176-9 with Tim Beeden (33) the pick of the batsmen, Ickenham managed to get the winning draw finishing 131-7 despite being 0-3. The 3rd XI cruised to another victory, chasing Richmonds 260-7 in just 30 overs thanks to destructive innings from Errol Crawford (90) and Adnan (102*). The 4th XI stayed top thanks to a 7 wicket win over South Hampstead, Salman Khan taking season best figures of 7-38 in South Hampsteads 112 All Out. The 5th XI once again had to chase a big score, Ealing getting 286-5, but once again they held on for a draw thanks to Tony Brown (59). Sunday was best forgotten for the 1st XI as they were beaten quite convincingly by Hanwell in the Chess Valley League, only 17 year old Randy Noel coming out with any credit. The 2nd XI romped home after chasing Knebworth Parks 159 All Out, Adeel Shah (81*) and James Hazell (55*) seeing them home. The 3rd XI lost by 5 wickets, Archie Mcarthur taking a very good 4-12 after Ameer Sohail saw them to 178-9 with a well deserved half century. REPORTS. 24th June 2005 3rd XI Report Posted & 1987 League UpdateOnline now, you can find Linserd Miller's report for the 3rd XI game this Saturday gone against Brondesbury, which resulted in Edmonton securing a 3 wicket victory. Also online are the updated 1987 League tables, which make pretty good reading, with Edmonton's 3rd XI and 4th XI top of their respective divisions, whilst the 5th XI will ba happy with their mid table status after last season's struggles. Clich here for the 1987 League Tables (this is in Microsoft Excel format). 21st June 2005 Averages and Fantasy League UpdatedWith the season hotting up as much as the weather for the Edmonton league XI's, you can find out who is leading the club averages (as well as who's not doing quite as well) by looking at the updated Averages section of the website. In the Fantasy League meenwhile, the bookies have stopped taking bets on 'Stav's Wonders' to win overall, as he has now opened up a lead of a staggering 71 points. The battle for second place is being led by Dave Smith's 'Banking on the Big Boys', although Kevin Lawrence is hanging on behind him with 2 teams, and Andy Cooper makes up the top 5 with his 'Where is my Radox?'. At the other end of the table, Alan Barnard's deliberately poor 'Worse than Varleys Lot' are well bottom, with Adam Herron's 'Blood Sweat and Beers' 31 points ahead. 20th June 2005
Cup Success, 2's & 3's Win, but 1st XI Slip UpA strange weekend this one, where the first XI won a game that almost everyone expected them to lose, after losing a game that a lot of people were backing them to win. Starting with Saturday, a very much below par batting performance saw the 1st XI slip to defeat against Indian Gymkhana, with only Ses Jayasena making anything resembling a score out of 130 all out. In reply, we took 4 wickets, thanks mostly to some top drawer keeping from Adam Herron who took 2 catches and a stumping. The 2nd XI continued their impressive run of form as they eased past Hornsey to consolidate their lead at the top of the league going into next weekends top of the table clash at Ickenham. Indian Anil Sharma again was star of the show, scoring an unbeaten 117 out of 175, after Ghafor Choudhury has bowled an impressive 5-70. The 3rd XI took in the scenery of Regents Park, as they played away to Brondesbury, and won with 3 wickets remaining, thanks to 3-41 from Kirk Brown, 76 from Adnam, and 53 from Dave Baker. The 4th XI posted a massive 258-3 against Hanwell, with the run machine that is John Hinnigan crashing 100 not out, and Nick Martin-Clarke chipping in with 70. Sadly, they couldn't bowl the visitors out as they finished on 195-7. The 5th XI were left chasing a massive 258 against Uxbridge, despite the best efforts of Anan Rooban (3-52), Kamal Panchal looking impressive with the bat for an unbeaten 82. The 6th (yes you heard correctly) were stuffed. Moving onto Sunday, the 1st XI took on last seasons runners up in the Ibex cup, and recorded an amazing win against the odds, thanks to Anil Sharma's 128, and some quite stunning late hitting from Adam Bilimoria (65*) and Chris Goddard (46*) who scored 100 from 10 overs to seal victory from the last ball due to fewer wickets lost. The 2nd XI eased past Hanwell in the Chess Valley, thanks to 78 from Adeel Shah, and 75 from Errol Crawford, whilst Hiram Braithwaite took 4-21 with the ball. John Hinnigan and Nick Martin Clarke were again the Sunday stars of the show, both recording centuries. REPORTS. 17th June 2005 Report Posted & Forum Link ChangedThose of you that use the Edmonton Cricket Club Forum may have noticed that it was down for the best part of today. This is because NTL in their infinite wisdom decided to change the address they lease to us, so we've subsequently had to update all the links to the forum. I've changed the link on the side bar (see left) so that it's pointing to the new address, but if anyone still has issues, please email me at the usual address. Also, I've posted Adam Herron's take on the game last Sunday against Harpenden, where we recorded a solid victory in the first outing in the Chess Valley League of the season. REPORT 16th June 2005 Contract Signed for New Changing RoomsIt's been confirmed today that the contract was signed last Thursday for the construction of the new £800,000 changing facilities at the sports club, the moeny coming courtest of a grant from the Football Foundation. Builders are expected to be starting work at Hydeside within the next ten days. Meenwhile, the slightly less significant news is that the averages section has been updated, complete with fantasy league tables. It won't come as much of a shock that Stavros Elia has open up a lead of more than 50 points from Dave Smith in 2nd place - it's still early days though. 15th June 2005 Report PostedBrief update to let you know that the report (AKA War and Peace) for the 1st XI's draw against Twickenham this weekend just gone has been posted in the REPORTS Section. The 2000-word epic, penned by Mark Varley is expected to be availible in paperback from all good book shops soon (only kidding Northern, top effort for a first go!) 14th June 2005
1st XI in the Runs, 2nd XI March onThis weekend just gone saw another string of creditable performances for all 5 Edmonton Saturday XI's, with 3 draws and 2 victories. Starting with the 1st XI, on a decent looking track, with the shortest boundaries of the season Edmonton amassed a hug 319-4 from 55 thanks to 119 in double quick time from opener Ses Jayasena, 73 from David Hinnigan, and an unbeaten 54 from Alan Barnard. In the end, we needed all 319 runs as table topping Twickenham came out the blocks quickly, and were only constrained by an excellent 5-82 from 19 overs by Skipper Tony Willett. The 2nd XI travelled round to Harrow, looking to make it 4 wins out of 4, and with Stavros Elia taking an impressive 4-22 things were looking good. With Indian import Anil Sharma (101) and Jilesh Pathani (44) the not out batsmen, Edmonton eased past the total for the loss of just two. The 3rd XI fielded first against Alexandra Park, and found themselves chasing 313, despite Archer Cornwall's 6-92. In reply, we had to settle for 263, with Marcus Berger finishing on 102 not out, and Adnam cashing in with a rapid 72. A strong looking 4th XI eased past Harrow St. Mary's thanks to some controlled bowling from Steve Loveday and Archie MacArthur, who took 4-12 and 4-28 respectively, in a game where ball dominated bat. Dave Smith played a steady innings to see us home for the loss of just 2. The 5th XI meanwhile took on second placed Harrow, and secured an impressive draw, with Sunny Nahal starring with 52 and 5-60, whilst evergreen Tony Brown cashed in with an unbeaten 59. Sunday saw the start of the Chess Valley campaigns, as the 1st XI took on Harpenden at Hydeside, restricting them to 213, and chasing comfortably, with Dave Hinnigan (73) and Adam Bilimoria (53) in the runs. The 2nd XI travelled to Harrow Town, and slipped up, despite the best efforts of Kirk Brown (62). The 3rd XI succumbed to Mayfield, despite some impressive run scoring from Keivn Fursse and Martin-Clarke. REPORTS 10th June 2005 More Reports & 1987 League TablesAlmost a clean sweep for Saturday team reports this week, with only the 4th XI missing out... come on 4th XI - anyone can email in a report, and it doesn't have to be particularly long. Just posted is the 3rd XI vs M.T.S.S.C. from last Saturday, courtesy of Linserd, so take a look at the REPORTS Section for full details. Also, I get the 1987 league tables sent to me, so I though it was about time I share this with the rest of the ECC online community:- 1987 League Tables (this is in Microsoft Excel format). 9th June 2005 Reports PostedIt's been a bumper week for reports so far, with Dave Sans' writing debut for the 5th XI, and things have just got better with Pat Carr providing reports for the win against North Middlesex last weekend, and for the long awaited report for the victory against Winchmore Hill the weekend before. See REPORTS Section for full details. Also, we've added a section onto the website which will have the selection for the weekend listed on it (click on the 'selection' link on the menu) - we're hoping to have this up and running in the next few weeks so that you can check your selection online. 8th June 2005 Averages & Fantasy League UpdateNot only have the averages been updated, but we have information on one of the most closely guarded secrets since Eddie Lucas's Swiss bank account details, in the form of the breakdown of everyones Fantasy Teams. Now we can answer the questions: 'How the heck can Stavros be so far ahead so early on?', and 'who has he got in his team?', as I've been asked this about 20 times in the last week by various people. Also in the section is details of the latest table, and the points scored (or un-scored, if you get my drift) by each player. For the record, Stav's team reads as follows: Venki, Ray Bullen, Gavin Mardell, John Hinnigan, Bill Bilimoria, Archie MacArthur, Steve Loveday, Archer Cornwall, Anil Sharma, Adnam and Colin Turner. Finally, I've posted reports from last Saturday for the 1st XI vs. Hanwell and the 5th XI vs. Indian Gymkhana REPORTS. 7th June 2005 3 Wins and a Draw for Top 4
Another excellent weekend for the club, with the 1st XI securing 17 points with a draw away from home, as they were inspired to a massive 266-2 by Venki (95), Ses Jayasena (67) and Alan Barnard (50 not out). Despite the best efforts of Ciaran Dodds and Matty Worton who each picked up two apiece, Hanwell steered the game towards a draw, losing 5 wicket in the process. It was a case of 3 out of 3 for the 2nd XI, who chased well after putting North Middlesex into bat, and limiting them to 236, with Martin Loveday the pick of the bowlers with a brace of wickets. In reply, Asif Padhani anchored the successful run chase from the top with 75, whilst Jilesh Pathini chipped in with a useful 43 as we won with 3 wickets to spare The 3rd XI continued their impressive feat of having won every game that has not been abandoned, after they eased past MTSSC, despite some early scares, as the Tamils reached 190-0, but then crumbled to 250, with Adnam taking 6-52. In reply, Errol Crawford played a stroke filled innings for 114 to secure the points, ably assisted by Kamal Panchal who finished on 72 not out, as the E-unit chased down in just 22 overs for the loss of no wicket. Meanwhile, away to North London, Steve Loveday proved that there's more than one bowler in the family with a fantastic 6-46 that stole the show bowling wise, despite Ameer Sohail's 4-27. The run chase was helped by run machine Waheed Ahmed, who finished on 68. Sadly, Dave Sans' 5th XI are slipping off the blistering early season pace that they showed, and succumbed to a defeat by a strong looking Indian Gymkhana outfit, despite the best efforts of Chris Barnes who took 5-59. Sunday was the last day of friendlies before the Chess Valley season starts proper, and Danny Hare proved that he can be just as effective with the ball as he took 4-28 to see off Totteridge. The 3rd XI were beaten comfortably by Tri Nations, despite Humberside International John Kenway's 3-36 and 56. REPORTS 6th June 2005 An ApologyThe administrators of Edmonton Cricket Club Forum would like to make a formal apology to Tom Simons for spelling his name with a double 'm' last weekend. It is understood that his lady is an avid reader of the Edmonton pages (poor woman!), and picked up on the mistake after he was credited with 42 not out, raising serious concerns about the copy and paste ability of the ECC website supremos. Webmaster Alan Barnard was unavailable for comment, but his lawyers issued the following statement: "it's with deep regret that any distress may have been caused by my client as a direct or indirect result of any accidental typographical errors. Mr Barnard will continue to act with all due diligence and take the necessary precautions to ensure that similar situations do not arise in future, and that the good name of the Edmonton Cricket Club website is maintained." Fellow website contributor Tim Beeden was quoted as saying "can you pass the mayonnaise please, my kebab's getting cold." 3rd June 2005 Six-A-Side Report PostedThe headline says it all, I've just recieved Adam Herron's take on the sucessful Enfield May Bank Holiday 6-A-Side tournament, where the Edmonton team of Herron, Hinnigan, Mardell, Varley, Muschamp, Hare and Dodds won back the tropy that they originally lifted in 2002. It sounds like a pretty eventful afternoon by all accounts, and you can check it out here in the REPORTS section. 2nd June 2005 Averages & Fantasy League UpdateJust a brief notice to let everyone know that the Averages section of the website has been updated with the latest stats, including the hotly awaited Fantasy League table. It really is very much of the same, with Stavros Elia's "Wonders" leading the way by a whole 36 points from the chaising pack, led by Roger Sans's imaginitively named "Roger Sans B" and Kevin Lawrence's "Tonkers XI", while at the wrong end of the table, Adam Herron is in a position well known to him - just below John Kenway. Herron's "Blood Sweat and Beers" just a point adrift from "Kenway's Tarts". Go to the AVERAGES section for more info. Also, I've just posted the 3rd XI report from this weekends victory against Acton, courtesy of Linserd Miller - REPORT. Lastly, the links section has been updated with a link to Harrow St Mary's CC's tables section, as they are pretty good at getting the 1st XI table in their website (unlike the Middlesex Championship website, which seems to be untouched since the start of the season). I'd like to say a big thanks to them for providing this useful service to the member clubs of the Saturday 1st XI First Division. 28th May 2005
What a Weekend!Where to start? What a superb bank holiday weekend this has been for the club (with a slight blip in between for the Sunday friendleies). Starting with the 1st XI, who took on British Airways at Hydeside, and ended up chasing down 254 with a couple of overs to spare after Ses Jayasena had gone on the rampage for a brutal 99, and Alan Barnard played a patient game for an unbeaten 75. This came after skipper Tony Willett had bowled 14 overs 3 for 32, quite stunning figures given the context of the match. In the 2nd XI's games against local rivals Winchmore Hill, it was the Anil Sharma show, the Indian import taking 3-39, then blitzing an unbeaten 119 to see us past the 224 required with just 2 wickets to spare. The 3rd XI made easier work of Acton with an impressive partnership of over 100 between Colin Bennett (80), and Dave Smith saw them home easily after Adnam had done the damage with the ball, taking 6 wickets. The 4th XI hosted MTSSC, and posted a massive 304 from just 39 overs, thanks to Mickey Bilson (107*) and Amir Sohail (56*), but were almost chased down, Micky Bilson turning into the star with the ball to take 5-63 to add to his 3 catches(!). The 5th XI unfortunately couldn't make it 5 out of 5; despite the best efforts of Tom Simmons but still maintain a healthy league position. Monday was the annual 6-a-side tournament at Enfield that Edmonton won in 2002, and have struggled to hit form in since. Under the leadership of Adam Herron, the team of youngsters triumphed in the final over a strong looking Enfield side, thanks to some inspired fielding from Gavin Mardell, solid bowling from Mark Varley and Ciaran Dodds, and some brutal hitting from Dave Hinnigan and especially Danny Hare. Happy Days! REPORTS. 27th May 2005 Fantasy League UpdateYou saw it here first! Or at least you did if you've not spoken to Tony Brown or been up the club recently. The long awaited ECC Fantasy League update is finally here - all that has to be said is why is Barnard not top? Congratulations to Stavros Elia for his early lead, he's got to be a little concerned however, with Dave Smith breathing down his neck (I know I would be!). It's early days so far, but Smithy is showing signs of having picked a cracker of a team... It's all so different from 2000 when Dave produced a shocker that had a grand total of -7, and was 8 points adrift of the rest after the first week. Anyway, enjoy the tables - I'm sure it'll be a source of much debate on the forum in days to come! FANTASY TABLE 21st May 2005
Normal Service Resumed for 2nd XIIt had taken a couple of weeks to happen, but I think it's fair to say that the 2nd XI are back in business now after Pat Carr inspired them to an excellent nine wicket victory against Bessborough in the Ladbrokes Middlesex County League this Saturday. In a rain affected game, the visitors to Hydeside were left struggling after some inspirational bowling from skipper Kevin Lawrence, (5 wickets) reduced them to 162-9 from 48. In reply, Khazi's unbeaten 96 was complimented nicely by Anil Sharma, who finished unbeaten on 40. All other Saturday fixtures fell victim to the weather, in a weekend of heavy showers, so credit has to go once again to Brent Rickard and Dave Sans for getting the wicket and outfield playable, and ensuring the 2nd XI could take all 10 to get their league campaign back on track. REPORT. Also posted is a brief report from the 2nd XI for the week previous. 19th May 2005 Report PostedJust a brief update to let everyone know that the reports page has been updated with a review of the 3rd XI's game against Teddington courtesy of Linserd Miller. Goto REPORTS section to view. Also, a brief update on the Fantasy League: We've recieved a bumper 50+ entries for this, so thanks to everyone who has submitted a team! I don't have any tables as yet, as there were a few entries that were submitted on time, but only made it to Tony Brown on Tuesday, but rest assured that as soon as I have anything, I'll put it up on the site. I think the best place to put the fantasy tables is in with the averages, but if anyone thinks different, then please drop me an email at the usual address. Cheers - Alan 14th May 2005
1st XI So Close as 1987 Sides Roll OnIn a disappointing weekend for the top two teams, the 1st XI slipped to an unlucky defeat against Old Actonians, making a brave decision to declare before 55 overs which almost paid dividends, but backfired as Actonians chased down for 7 wickets with 2 overs reminaing in a nailbiting finish. Despite this, they can count themselves lucky to take home 13 valuable points after an excellent batting performance, spearheaded by Venki (59), Alan Barnard (54) and Danny Hare (40 not out). The 2nd XI slipped to their first defeat for over 2 years, as they lost to a strong looking Old Actonians side, despite Anil Sharma's 60. The 3rd XI brought some cheer to the club however, after making it 3 out of 3 against Teddington thanks to late call up Archie McArthur's excellent 5-22. The 4th XI managed to get the better of local rivals Winchmore Hill after Ahmed had blitzed an unbeaten 122 and evergreen John Hinnigan had chipped in with 52, the game went down to the wire with just 9 runs separating the teams in a tense finish. David Sans's 5th XI continued their excellent start to the season thanks to Bill Billimoria's steady 55 at the top of the order. Sunday saw Kevin Fursse and Paul Hare in the runs as Edmonton took on Hadley Green Sports in a close encounter at Hydeside. REPORTS 12th May 2005 Report PostedJust a brief update to let everyone know that the reports page has been updated with a review of the 2nd XI's game against Harrow Town courtesy of Pat Carr. Goto REPORTS section to view. Also, another reminder to anyone who has not done so: Fantasy Teams must be submitted before this Saturday's games, any late entries will not be considered. 11th May 2005 Gallery UpdatedSee the gallery section for the latest photos from last weekends First XI fixture against Harrow St Mary's at Hydeside, as well as the victorious 5th XI living the high life in the club bar. 9th May 2005 Fantasy League ReminderWith the league season already underway, why not take the opportunity to enter a team of your own into the Edmonton Cricket Club Fantasy League? At a cost of just £5 per entry, it should prove to be an excellent bit of fun, with a decent cash prize to going to the best manager, as well as raising money to the club. The closing date is now less than a week away, so anyone who hasn't yet submitted their team should make sure they do so by 13:15 on Saturday 14th May. Entries can either be handed in directly to Tony Brown, Jo Belcher or any Committee member, or emailed to alan@edmontoncc.org. Due to a number of requests from members, here is a soft copy of the Scoring System, Player List and Entry Form. Happy Management! 7th May 2005
5th XI Set the Standard as Venki ShinesIn a solid start to the 2005 league season, the news was almost exclusively dominated by one man, and one team. Starting with the man, Indian overseas batsman Venki struck a simply stunning 174 in Edmonton 1st XI's return to Division 1 of the Middlesex Championship against Harrow St. Marys at Hydeside. Despite his efforts, we were consigned to a stalemate draw, despite a late 2 wickets from top all-rounder Gavin Mardell. The team that dominated the headlines was the 5th XI, skippered by David Sans, who managed to record their first ever victory against Wembley 4th XI, with Billy Pete crashing a personal best of 109 at the top of the order. The 2nd XI, representing Edmonton in the Middlesex County League for the first time since the early eighties had to settle for a draw against Harrow Town, with nobody really impressing on a tough wicket. The 3rd XI cruised home against Ealing 4th XI thanks to Casper Britz's 3-47, whilst in reply, they crashed the 181 required in under 20 overs, thanks to some impressive stroke play from Errol Crawford. The 4th XI gained a creditable draw against Kenton, and almost snatched victory after Ahmed had helped to build a strong platform with an unbeaten 79, but were 3 wickets shy at the close. On Sunday, it was the Gavin Mardell show again, as the king of spin took 4-15, then eased the E-Unit home with a steady unbeaten 57. Danny Muschamp also picked up 3 wickets in what turned out to be a comfortable win. REPORTS 30th April 2005
ECC Gears up for League CampaignsThis was a typically slow early season weekend for Edmonton, with the 1st XI only having a Sunday fixture, whilst on Saturday, the 4th XI did battle with the 5th XI as respective captains Kevin Fursse and David Sans looked to settle on the make up of their teams. On Sunday, the 1st XI travelled to Pinner to see home low scoring victory, thanks to some excellent bowling from Archer Cornwall, Ses Jayasena and Danny Muschamp. REPORTS 23rd April 2005
First XI Slip out of CupDespite managing to field a strong looking side, the Sunday 1st XI fell at the first hurdle in the Middlesex Federation Cup against County League opponents Kenton. In a game where to toss dictated much of the game, Kenton came out of the traps strongly, and exploited some tough conditions early on to bowl Edmonton out for just 150. In reply, they chased with relative ease, despite Adnam's impressive 3-36. The side now drop down into the Federation Vase, a competition which they won last season. Elsewhere, results were more positive, as James Hazell impressed with the bat on both days, making 72 and 47 for the 2nd XI. The first XI on Saturday eased to a win against County League Highgate, thanks to a solid 63 from skipper Adam Herron. John Street made a welcome return after a season's absence to go for just 17 in 10 overs, whilst Martin Loveday picked up a couple of wickets. Other notable performers over the weekend were Andrew Thomas (4-31) and Archie McArthur (51). REPORTS 17th April 2005
Club Looks forward to New SeasonWelcome to the first updates of the season for the newly re-designed Edmonton CC website. As you'll see from the article below, there's a lot to be optimistic about at the moment off the field as well as on. With last season's triple promotions for the top 3 XIs still fresh in our memories, the club will be looking to go one better and push for promotion into the County League for the 1sts and 3rds as well as consolidating the position of the 2nd XI in the top flight. In terms of captains, there's not a lot of change in the top XI's with Tony Willett, Kevin Lawrence and Linserd Miller all continuing whilst Adam Herron looks to make it a 2nd promotion in 2 years for the Sunday 1st XI. The club held its annual awards dinner a couple of weeks back, where guest Phillip DeFreitas presented the 2004 awards, Adam Herron picking up player of the year, whilst Danny Muschamp took the young player award. In other news, the club recently sealed a double shirt sponsorship with Braydon Motors and Integrated Security Consultants, which will mean that at least the top two teams will be wearing the same kit for the first time in recent years. In the cup competitions the 1st XI have been drawn against Kenton in the Middlesex Federation Cup, and against Wycombe House in the Ibex Cup, details of dates can be found in the fixtures section. This season, sees the welcome return of the Edmonton Cricket Club Fantasy League, where you can pit your wits against other managers to pick the best Edmonton XI for £150 or under. A reminder to everyone that entry forms should be returned to Tony Brown, Joanne Belcher or any committee member no later than Friday 13th May. Lastly, I'd like to wish you all a good 2005 season, and hope to see you all in the next couple of weeks. 17th April 2005 Sports Club Annouce New Changing FacilitiesThe club will be looking forward to moving into new changing facilities in time for the 2006 season, thanks to a grant of over £800,000 from the Football Foundation charity. Here is the full story, taken from the Enfield Advertiser on January 5th 2005: A Sports club is rejoicing after being given a bumper New Year bonus to entice more kids off the street and into sneakers. A new complex will replace the 100-year-old changing rooms at the Edmonton Sports and Social Club after the Football Foundation sports charity announced a £838,000 grant. Managers of the Norsemen Football Club and Edmonton Cricket Club, both of which play at the Church Street ground, hope the cash boost will entice more youngsters and adults into playing. Peter Withers said nearly 500 kids and adults played for the 19 football teams and 14 cricket teams, and added that the clubs were delighted with the award. "We are not based in the best of areas," he said. "But we are looking after a lot of kids and there's a lot of support for us in the area. "Our current changing rooms are pretty dreadful and we have been pushing for this extra cash for a while. "A lot of it is due to the amount of youngsters that we have and the lack of facilities in the surrounding area. There's a number of social disadvantages in the area, and without these new facilities there would be a risk that the good work we do would be lost. "This represents a fantastic turning point in the 118 year history of Edmonton Sports and Social Club." He added that the clubs hoped to introduce female and disabled teams when the changing facilities were constructed. Peter Lee, chief executive of the Football Foundation charity which gave the cash, said: "As our national game, football needs to reflect the make-up of our society. This new project is set to give a much-needed boost to sports participation in Enfield." |
