Click on the picture for large. 4th October 2006 Final Averages UpdateNow the season is finished for 2006, our resident statistician Tony Brown has been working night and day in order to compile the average for the year (thanks Tony!). Given the state of some of the scorebooks, this task is something that is a fair bit harder than most people realise, so fair play to him for getting them compiled so quickly. As usual, see the Averages Section for more details. 21st September 2006 Edmonton CC Video Horse Racing Night - September 30thJust a quick reminder for those of you that have not heard that the club will be holding a video horse racing night at the clubhouse from 8.30pm on Saturday 30th September. Click on the picture for large. 20th September 2006 Averages and Final Fantasy League UpdateWell, you can cut the tension with a knife... or maybe not, but we can finally bring you the long awited Edmonton CC Fantasy League final standings, which has thrown up some interesting results. Starting with the wrong end of the table, bringing up the rear, so to speak, we have Tony Kershaw with his Kersh's Kavaliers, closely followed by a collective of Roger Sans and Tony Brown teams all with equally exciting names. At the business end of the table, starting with 3rd place is Helen Dodds with her Hells Bells Rejects on 493 points. One place above is James Hazell and his team of Edmonton All Stars on 505 points (although I'm not totally sure if we have 11 All Stars in the club, but that's another matter altogether). But in top spot, with 519 points, and jumping into the lead for the first time this season (in very suspiscios circumstances, I might add) is none other than our very own Fantasy League points compiler Tony Brown with his well named team: TB1. Naturally, there will be a stewards enquiry about this one, as it's far too suspect for my liking... Seriously though, well done Tony - I think the amount of time you spend compiling the averages and Fantasy League tables makes you as worthy as winner as we've had, and it also means that 4th placed Stav Elia doesn't win again. See the Averages Section for more details. 18th September 2006 Another Report PostedThe report for the 1st XI's game against British Airways from the last game of the league season has been posted now, and can be viewed here: Reports Section. Once we have all the details of the last few games, we'll be able to post a review for the final league weekend of the season. Watch this space for more updates coming soon, but we can tell you that the 1st XI avoided relegation with an impresive win. 7th September 2006 Report PostedAfter numerous promises and false dawns, we've finally received a report for the 1st XI's game vs. Old Actonians from July the 1st. The report can be found in the usual place: Reports Section, and comes courtesy of Edmonton CC's very own yoga expert, David 'Triangle Pose' Smith. 2nd September 2006 2nd XI Hang On, 1st XI StruggleFirstly, a quick 'sorry' for the lack up updates in recent weeks, but the webmaster has been away on holiday, so has not been able to maintain the usual level of service. Having said that, it wasn't the most memorable weekend for the club, with the 1st XI slipping up in the crucial game against fellow strugglers Old Actonians in West London. Batting first, Edmonton posted and under-par 161 with only skipper Adam Herron really troubling the scorers with a fluent 48. In reply, Actonians eased to victory for the loss of two. The 2nd XI hung on for a respectable losing draw against table topping Southgate, with Adeel Saeed (82) and Stavros Elia (43) in the runs, as we fell 29 runs short with just 1 wicket in hand. The 3rd XI slipped up away to British Airways, losing by 7 wickets, whilst the 4th XI provided one of the few positive notes of the day, chasing down 286 against Mill Hill Village in impressive style, with Kevin Lawrence, Ameer Sohail and Dave Baker all scoring half centuries. Sunday was more positive, with the 1st XI consolidating their position at the top of the Chess Valley League, posting 280 against Berkhampsted with Dave Rai posting 81 and Alan Barnard 51. In reply, Berkhampsted would only muster 191 all out, with young seamers Ciaran Dodds and Billy Pete both taking 4 wickets apiece. The Academy XI struggled heavily against a strong Bessborough side in the league, losing by 140 runs. There aren't any reports for this week, as the regular writers are away, but we are expecting a few 1st XI reports from over the last few months fairly soon. 25th August 2006 Gallery Update and Report PostedIt's been a long time coming, but after numerous requests from everyone at the club, we've finally got round to producing a gallery page for the Ladies vs. Men game from July 28th. There are also a few photos from the club BBQ afterwards, but as everyone was a little tipsy by this stage, the quality and quantity leaves a little to be desired. Anyway, you can find the page here: Gallery Section. Also, we have a report for the 1st XI game for the weekend just gone against Calthopre, courtesy of Mark Varley, which can be found in the usual place: Reports Section. 24th August 2006 Averages and Fantasy UpdatedJust a quick note to let you know that the averages section and ECC Fantasy League has been updated with the most recent set of stats supplied by our resident statistition, Tony Brown (thanks Tony). I know that there's been a rew problems in recent weeks with the averages being updated with duplicate data, but we've resolved this now, and what's online should be completely correct now. As you can see, the Fantasy League is hotting up into a battle between Tony Brown and James Hazell, with Helen Dodds pushing them all the way to the finish in 3rd. Interestingly, Tony Brown is also bringing up the foot of the table with his 3rd team! See the Averages Section for more details. 19th August 2006 Solid Results for Top 3 TeamsAnother excellent weekend for the top two Saturday league teams, who needed to pick up good results in order to ease relegation worries. Starting with the 1st XI, who travelled the short distance round to Calthorpe to find a very wet pitch, and a delayed start in the offing. When play got underway, we were asked to bat, and progress was slow. A 130 run partnership from Prabhu Balachandaran (75) and Alan Barnard (85*) settled nerves and a competitive 232-4 was posted from 51 overs. In reply, Calthorpe lost wickets at regular intervals, but we couldn't quite take the last wicket as they hung on at 86-9. Danny Hare and Prabhu took 3 wickets apiece, the Indian off spinner looking particularly hard to play on a turning, bouncing track. The 2nd XI took on bottom placed Barnet at Hydeside, and restricted them to just 117 on a good looking track, with Ciaran Dodds taking 3-42. In reply, there were a few butterflies, but we eased home with 5 wickets to spare. The 3rd XI (well, the 3rd IX as it actually turned out) travelled round to play Brondesbury, and inspired by Colin Bennett (117) and Dave Baker (87) rattled up 267-7. In reply, it was a similar story to the 1st XI, as Brondesbury were limited to 189-9 with the wickets shared. The 4th XI slipped up against Southgate, despite Paul Hare's 65 helping them on their way to 231-8, but the visitors passed this score with 2 wickets in hand in an exciting finish. The 5th XI eased their relegation fears by picking up all the points as Swamibapa were unable to field a side. Skipper David Sans now looks favourite to win his bet on their final league position. On Sunday, it was a similar story for the 1st XI, as they travelled to Alexandra Park, only to find out that the hosts were unable to raise a team, so we went away with maximum points. The Academy XI took on Wembley away, and conceded 361-7 from 45, with 5 wickets from Shiva. We were never in the hunt to chase down such a huge total, despite 70 from Joe Soloula and 53 from Glen Brown. The Sunday friendly XI took on Bharat Olympians and posted 212-7 thanks to 52 from Alan Lord, but the visitors passed this for the loss of 5. See the Reports Section for more details. 12th August 2006
1st XI Record Memorable VictoryThis weeks proceedings were dominated by the 1st XI, who pulled off one of the most memorable victories of recent seasons, in beating Old Lyonians at Hydeside. Batting first, only Gavin Mardell (53) offered any real resistance, as we were bowled out for just 141, and looked dead and buried at tea. However some superb aggressive bowling from Mark Varley (6-46) and Wali Khan (4-40) saw Lyonians slump first to 16-6, then to 86 all out, capping off a memorable day with a much needed 30 points. The 2nd XI continued their disappointing run of form as they slipped up away to Uxbridge. The 2nd team only managed to post a score of 131 all out, which Uxbridge passed with us taking just 3 of their wickets. The 3rd XI finished their game against Ealing in a degree of confusion as the heavens opened for the last hour of the game. Batting first, we posted 267 all out, thanks to Colin Bennett (80) and Chris Goddard (50), Ealing finished up on 268-6 with an over to spare. The 4th XI travelled to Lohana, and were bolstered by Kevin Lawrence, who hit an impressive 102, but despite the best efforts of Archie McArthur (6-43), Lohana were able to chase down the required 215 with 2 wickets in hand. The 5th XI slipped up against a very strong looking Shepherd's Bush side on the Grocers Ground. On Sunday, all the games were abandoned due to inclement weather, although the 2nd XI did manage to make a start away at Chingford before the rain came. See the Reports Section for more details. 29th July 2006
3rd XI Win in Dramatic StyleA mixed weekend this one, with a pretty even balance of wins, losses and draws for the 5 Saturday teams in their league games. Starting with the 1st XI, who hosted title chasing Twickenham at Hydeside, and after a slow start managed to post 293-9. Danny Hare and Adeel Saeed began the consolidation, whilst Wali Khan hit a blazing 91 at the end of the innings. In reply, Twickenham posted 243-7 from the 41 overs they got back. The 2nd XI made the trip around to Shepherds Bush and managed to scrape a losing draw after Martin Loveday and Andy Cooper clung on at the end. Earlier in the day, the hosts made 202 all out with Stavros Elia taking 5-67. The 3rd XI game went down to the wire against Alexandra Park as Edmonton posted 252-7 with the evergreen pair of Colin Bennett (100) and Dominic Harte (67) in the runs. In reply, AP came within a whisker, as they were bowled out for 246, with skipper Linserd Miller taking 4-38. The 4th XI slipped up against Wembley, with only Kamal Panchal (49) troubling the scorers, whilst the 5th XI lost to Harrow with youngster Chris Arul impressing with a solid 59. On Sunday, the 1st XI beat Clifton as they chased down 256 with Dave Rai scoring 88 and Joe Soloula 61. The 3rd XI took on Norseman in the needle match of the season, and won by 71 runs thanks to runs from Paul Hare, and wickets from Alan Porter. See the Reports Section for more details. 1st August 2006 Report PostedJust a brief note to let you know that the report for the 2nd XI game against Ickenham from a couple of weekends ago is now posted in the Reports Section courtesy of Gavin 'Tolstoy' Mardell. Also, we're aware of the issue regarding Averages being updated, and hope to have a set of averages that are actually updated for you soon. 27th July 2006 Averages and Fantasy UpdatedJust a quick note to let you know that the averages section and ECC Fantasy League has been updated with the most recent set of stats supplied by our resident statistition, Tony Brown (thanks Tony). We'll try to keep this as up-to-date as we can over the course of the season. See the Averages Section for more details. 22nd July 2006 4th XI Fly the Flag. This was a frustrating week for the Saturday 1st XI, who were looking to get on top of a very young looking Indian Gymkhana when a brief spell of rain intervened with the hosts on 53-3, with Mark Varley bagging all 3 wickets. Sadly, a lack of covers and a poor wicket meant that the umpires deemed conditions completely unplayable, and that was that. The 2nd XI ended a run of defeats against Wycombe House at home, with Gavin Mardell (71) and Daz Sivathasan (61) helping them on their way to a total of 224-8 from 50. In reply, House were up against it, with Archer Cornwall bowling a very tidy 19 overs 4-49, and Ash Perreira taking 3 quick wickets at the end, but we had to settle for a draw as House hung on at 184-9. The 3rd XI were undone by some amazing hitting against a strong-looking Acton side, as they posted 231-8, but the visitors passed this total in double-quick time for no loss (thanks in the most part to an unbeaten 160 from one of their openers). The 4th XI faired much better in the 1987 league trip to Polytechnic, as they posted a below-par 168 all out, but the off spin of youngster Chat Gallage, who took 6-34, led to the hosts being skittled for 138 to cap a memorable 25 point victory. Meanwhile, the 5th XI slipped up to a strong looking Ealing side by 9 wickets. Sunday saw wins for the 1st and 2nd XI in the Chess Valley League. The 1st XI took on Brondesbury, and posted an imposing 263 from 45 thanks to David Hinnigan with 63 and Gavin Mardell with 56. A young-looking Brondesbury side eventually were all out for 157 with Danny Hare (3-12) and Archie McArthur (3-42) impressing with the ball. The 2nd XI travelled to Kenton and chased down 193 for the loss of just 2 wickets, thanks to Linserd Miller's 3-40 and Vince Drayton's unbeaten 73. The Academy XI slipped up against Cockfosters, despite posting a competitive 176 all out with Nelson Arul scoring 61 and taking 3-18. See the Reports Section for more details. 21st July 2006 Report Posted & Table UpdatesJust a brief note to let you know that the report for the 1st XI game against Southall for the weekend just gone is now posted in the Reports Section courtesy of Mark Varley. Also, we have the latest 1987 league tables, which show that the 3rd XI are in contention at the top of the 1st division, the 4th XI are a respectable 4th place in division 2, whilst the 5th XI are mid table in division 4. To view the tables, just click on the link at the left hand side of this window (you will need to have MS Excel or Excel Viewer installed). 19th July 2006 Averages and Fantasy UpdatedJust a quick note to let you know that the averages section has been updated with the most recent set of stats supplied by our resident statistition, Tony Brown (thanks Tony). We'll try to keep this as up-to-date as we can over the course of the season. See the Averages Section for more details. Also included is the ECC Fantasy League table, which makes for interesting reading as the battle for first (and last) place is hotting up. In the lead is James Hazell's "Edmonton All Stars" who have opened up a 25+ point gap over second placed "Hells Bells Rejects" managed by Helen Dodds. As always Stav Elia is in the running in 3rd place, whilst Kerry McDermott is 4th. At the bottom of the table, "Trident CC" managed by Glen Brown is in last place, but he is hot on the heels of "Caarth's Wrong Uns" managed by Cath Rees. Tune in next week when (hopefully) we should have another update for you. 15th July 2006
Superstar Archie Takes All 10!4th XI legend Archie McArthur was the star of the show this weekend, picking up all 10 wickets for Edmonton the first time in living memory against MTSSC at home. Sadly, his mammoth 24.1 over stint couldn't bring a win, as the game petered out to a draw, despite the best efforts of Adam Bilimoria who hit a solid 64. Meanwhile, on the main pitch, the 1st XI came close against Southall, after the visitors were restricted to 234-8 with Tony Willett taking 4, and spin legend Prabhu Balachandaran picking up 2 in a very economical spell. In reply, we came close, but despite David Hinnigan and Adeel Saeed posting solid 50s, we closed 15 runs short. The 2nd slipped to a defeat against a strong looking Ickenham outfit, with Stav Elia (42), Daz Sivathasan (43) and Omar Hatmi (46) contributing with the bat, however the hosts were able to chase down the required 220 for the loss of six wickets. The 3rd XI secured the only win on Saturday after they travelled to Twickenham and were set what on paper appeared to be a simple 147 run chase, thanks in the most part to veteran all-router Dominic Harte who posted figures of 6-57. It was a closer finish than was expected, but we managed to chase down with 3 wickets to spare. The 5th XI, at home to Wembley 5th XI posted a competitive 220 all out with Ash Perera top scoring with 84. In what proved to be a tense finish, Wembley came up 3 runs short of our total thanks to an economical spell of 3-28 from Tony Kershaw. Sunday proved to be less eventful, as a weakend 1st XI scraped past Cockfosters thanks to 3-11 from Hiram Braithwaite and 49 from James Hazell. The 3rd XI took on Goodwill Wanderers, and posted 200 with Nick Martin-Clarke scoring 100 not out, whilst Wanderers managed to post 182-9 in reply. See the Reports Section for more details. 17th July 2006 Reports UpdateApologies for the lack of updates to the site in the last few weeks, we're hoping to have full updates to the scores in the next day or so, as well as a round-up for the last couple of weekends. Also, there's another update to the averages section, and the Fantasy League, which is starting to hot up now the season is well underway. Helen Dodds' "Hells Bells Rejects" leapfrog above James Hazel's "Edmonton All Stars", whilst Fantasy League specialist Stav Elia's "Home Only" take third at the moment. Cath Rees' "Caarth's Wrong Uns" slip into last place, but there's still plenty of games to play before the final standings are decided, so there's everything to play for. As always, you can see the Averages and Fantasty Tables in the Averages Section for more details. 2nd July 2006 Averages and Fantasy UpdatedJust a quick note to let you know that the averages section has been updated with the most recent set of stats supplied by our resident statistition, Tony Brown (thanks Tony). We'll try to keep this as up-to-date as we can over the course of the season. See the Averages Section for more details. 1st July 2006 1st XI Come Close at HydesideA better weekend for the 1st XI this week, after last week's performance, managing a draw against bottom team Old Actonians. However it has to be stated that there batting line up didn't look as weak as there league position. Old Actonians posted 263-5. Whali Khan bowling well, if a bit unlucky, in his debut for the 1st XI. We posted a good reply and were looking good to chase the total until we lost 3 very quick wickets in the middle of the innings, eventually scoring 222-8. Once again Danny Hare (58) batted well, and was ably supported by Dave Smith (47). However, even with a few 'lusty blows' from the lower order, it meandered to a tame draw. The 2nd XI had a bit of a blip this weekend, losing to Southgate by 149 runs (Southgate 269-9, Edmonton 120 All Out). Although disappointing, it wasn't one of 2nd XI's strongest sides (and starting with 8 men didn't help), and there is certainly a lot more to come from this side this season. The 3rd XI had another high scoring game at Hydeside, which ultimately ended in a draw. British Airways scored an impressive 322-6. On this track, a total that can easily be chased, however even though Ramrattan scored 107 and 'Mr Consistency" Colin Bennett scored a fifty, Edmonton could only manage 233-3. Our 4th XI managed a draw this week against Mill Hill Village and our 5th XI's game had to be forfeited, due to lack of availability this week. Sunday ended up being a bit of an easier game for our 1st XI, against Willesden Green. Edmonton posted 237-7 (Colin Bennett 79) and Willesden Green were bowled out for 103 with Kamal Panchal taking 4-9 with his leg spin. See the Reports Section for more details. 24th June 2006 3rd XI Show the WayPerhaps not the greatest weekend, this one, as the 1st XI slipped up away to Osterley, posting a very low total, despite the best efforts of Dave Smith with the bat, and Danny Hare with the ball. The 2nd XI, at home to promotion candidates Brentham acquitted themselves well, and showed that they were adapting to life in the County League second division as they recorded a winnings draw, thanks to under 17 skipper Danny Muschamp, who anchored the innings with a personal best 93. Sadly, we couldn't snatch the last two wickets but were left with the lions share of the points. The 3rd XI traveled to West London to take on Acton 4th XI, and came away with a win, thanks to another good bowling performance from skipper Linserd Miller (4-20). The 4th XI were forced to settle for a draw at home to a strong looking Highgate 3rd string, with Azid Sohoye performing well, scoring 95, to follow last weeks hundred. The 5th XI took on Uxbridge 4th XI on the Grocers ground and drew. Anand Rooban taking 5-89. It then took a good overall batting performance to hold out for the draw. Sunday was a lot more positive for the 1st XI as Northwood's 237 was chased down fairly comfortably, thanks to Dave Rai (58) and Danny Muschamp (54). The 2nd XI had a day to forget, losing badly to Harrow. A lack of front line bowling my have played a part in Harrow's opening partnership of 304! The Academy XI took on Holtwhites Trinibis, and also slipped to defeat, despite some lusty blows in an entertaining innings from Alan Lord. See the Reports Section for more details. 22nd June 2006 Fantasy Update and Report PostedThose of you that have submitted a fantasy league team this year (and there were 37 of you), will be pleased to hear that the tables have been updated, and can be found in the Averages Section of the website. James Hazell leads the way with his 'Edmonton All Stars', closely followed by the inappropriately named 'Hells Bells Rejects' from Helen Dodds. Third place at the moment is taken up by the clasically names 'TB2' from Tony Brown (can you guess what his other two teams are called?), whilst propping up the pile are Steve Keers 'The Dip Sticks'. Also, you can find the 1st XI report from Tim Beeden online in the Reports Section for the game this weekend just gone against Calthorpe. 17th June 2006
4 Wins and a DrawAnother good weekend for Edmonton, as the club recorded 4 out of 5 wins in the Saturday League, and 2 out of 3 in the Chess Valley Sunday League. Starting with the 1st XI, who took on Calthorpe in a heated encounter at Hydeside. Calthorpe posted 282-6 from 55, and we had to settle for a draw ending up on 235-8, despite the best efforts of Dave Hinnigan who hit 119 in double quick time. The 2nd XI took part in a very brief game of cricket at Barnet, skittling the hosts for just 16(!) with Whali Khan taking 5-1 from his 7 overs, and Lloyd Henry securing 4 wickets. The 3rd XI looked to be heading for a loss or at least a draw after Brondesbury rattled up 308-6, but Dave Baker (110*), James Hazel (52) and Beaumont (59) had other ideas, as we eased home with overs to spare. The 4th XI traveled to Southgate, and came home with all 20 points after we first restricted them to 218-8 with Paul Baker taking 3-37 and Steve Loveday 3-69, and then Azid Sohoye (103*) and Dominic Harte (55) ensured that we had a successful run chase to win with 3 wickets in hand. The 5th XI bowled out Swamibapa for just 92, thanks to evergreen seam duo Bill Bilimoria (5-31) and Anan Rooban 4-46, a fairly straightforward run chase saw us win by 7 wickets. On Sunday, the 1st XI traveled to Osterley, and restricted the hosts to 174 thanks to Vikram Maish with 4-56 and Stavros Elia taking 3-26. In reply, we squeezed home thanks to a typically flamboyant 52 from Dave Rai at the top of the order. In the 2nd XI, we chased down 235 against Potters Bar, thanks to Jilesh Pattini's 54 and Whali Khan's 65. The Academy XI suffered a heavy defeat to a strong looking Winchmore Hill side. See the Reports Section for more details. 14th June 2006 2 New Sections for the Website & ReportsThe more eagle eyed amongst you may well have already noticed by now that we've added a couple more links to the left-hand side menu of the website in recent days. The first one is a link to the 1987 league tables, which I'm hoping to keep up to date on a weekly basis. Secondly, the Jack Petchey Award section will be updated monthly with details of the latest ECC award winners, with photos and information. Once again, if anyone has any suggestions or comments on the Website, then please feel free to contact us at the usual address (again on the left-hand side menu). Also, you can find the 2nd XI report from Chris Goddard online in the Reports Section for the game this weekend just gone against Uxbridge. 10th June 2006
3 Wins from 3 for Top 3The Saturday 1st XI finally managed to get their first win of the season under their belt, as they continued their unbeaten run in Division 1 of the championship to 5 matches away to Old Lyonians. After winning the toss and electing to field, skipper Adam Herron was delighted to see his side restrict the hosts to 166 all out on a decent looking track, thanks in the most part to Prabhu Balachandaran's 4-23 from 15, and some accurate seam bowling from Martin Loveday. In reply, there were few jitters, as the E-Unit eased home thanks to Dave Hinnigan (56) and Alan Barnard (58*), to spark some wild celebrations in Harrow. The 2nd XI made it 2 wins from 2 against Uxbridge at home, chasing a competitive 227 (with Stav Elia taking an impressive 6-51), we managed to squeeze home after new boy Whali Khan took the attack to the bowlers with a lower order unbeaten 71 as we chased for the loss of 7. The 3rd XI made it 3 out of 3 against Ealing, with Beaumont taking 6-17, restricting the hosts to 201. In reply the ever reliable Colin Bennett anchored the innings with 65 as we chased the total down for 6. The 4th XI couldn't quite take the last wicket against Lohana, after they had set the visitors 260 to win thanks to Waheed Ahmed's 96 and 64 from Kevin Fursse. Bala Gokul impressed with the ball, taking 3-46. The 5th XI were never in the hunt after Shepherd's Bush rattled up 269-5, but some solid resistance from Bill Bilimoria (57*) saw us secure a draw with little trouble as we finished on 130-3. Sunday saw the 1st XI take on Walthamstow away, and win with ease, thanks to Adam Herron's quick fire unbeaten 54 as we chased down 218 for the loss of 3. The 2nd XI drew with Vale, despite the best efforts of Kamal Panchal who scored 52, then took 3-27. Elsewhere, the 3rd XI lost to GWR at home, and the Academy XI slipped up to Blackrose on the Grocers square. See the Reports Section for more details. 13th June 2006 Gallery UpdateJust a brief note to let you know that the Photo Gallery has been updated with photos (courtest of Mark Varley) from the 1st XI win at Old Lyonians, and the post match celebrations back at Hydeside. I should have details of the weekend's achievements and some match reports later on today, but in the mean time, the Results Section has been updated with the latest scores from the weekend. 3rd June 2006
Excellent Weekend for ECCThis was yet another good weekend for Edmonton, as the weather finally took a turn for the better, and we were able to get all our fixtures completed as arranged. Starting on Saturday, the 1st XI hosted Harrow St. Mary's, who were last year's runners-up in the top division of the Trailfinders Championship, and a competitive side to boot. Batting first, we let them get away with things to post 256, despite the best efforts of seamers Ciaran Dodds and Tony Willett. In reply, it was always going to be a very tough ask, but we came closer than we might have done thanks to a 205 run partnership from Danny Hare (93*) and Alan Barnard (99*). In the end we were 30 runs shy at stumps, but a good performance nevertheless. The 2nd XI pulled off a stunning win thanks to skipper Archer Cornwall's 22 overs 5-56, and Stav Elia chipping in with 3-37 restricting Wembley to just 151. In reply, some sensible batting from Chris Goddard and some positive stroke-play from Dave Rai (45*) was enough to see us home with 6 wickets to spare. The 3rd XI took on Brondesbury 4th XI, and skittled them for just 86, thanks in the most part to skipper Linserd Miller's stunning 8-18, setting up and easy chase, which we managed at a canter for the loss of just 4 wickets. The 4th XI looked to be heading for a draw after Alexandra Park had posted a tough 210-6, but Edmonton, inspired by some big hitting from new recruit Imran Bacchus (97) eased home to take all 20 points with 6 wickets in hand. The 5th XI, without a league game took on Harold Wood in a friendly, and restricted the visitors to 160, thanks to Adam Lord (5-20). In reply, we could only muster 127-4, but skipper Dave Sans will be happy to extend his run of promising results, especially having fielded such a young side. Sunday saw the 2nd XI take on Mostyn CC, who scored 166 all out with James Hazell taking 5-25 with his leg-break bowling, and we managed to squeeze home off the last ball with 1 wicket to spare after the run chase was set up by Colin Bennett. The 3rd XI took on Enfield Invicta in a runs fest as Kevin Fursse (75*) and Bala Gokul (63*) crashed their way to 252-4, but Invicta were not to be outdone, and chased with 4 wickets to spare, despite Dave Baker's 4-58. The Academy XI, in its first fixture took on Belmont and Edgware, and bowled them out for just 91, thanks to 4-16 from S. Lynn and 2-6 from 11 year old J. Hawkins. Sadly the run chase went awry, and we stuttered to a disappointing 84 all out. See the Reports Section for more details. 30th May 2006 e sell it to Sponsor Saturday 2nd XI![]() e sell it - a Mill Hill based firm specialising in selling unwanted items on eBay for it's customers - announced a sponsorship deal today with the Saturday 2nd XI. The mutually beneficial arrangement helps to secure much needed funds for the club, whilst giving e sell it publicity on the Edmonton CC website via the Saturday 2nd XI reports, fixtures page and of course our sponsors page. We look forward to a long and sucessful association with another individual team sponsor. For more details of what e sell it can do for you, please visit our Sponsors page. Also, we are still looking for sponsorts for a number of our other weekend teams, as well as sponsors for Colts teams at all age groups - for a very small outlay, you can have your business associated with a team of your choice, on a website that gets upwards of 8000 hits yearly mostly from people in the local Edmonton and Middlesex areas. For more details, please email alan@edmontoncc.org to find out more. 29th May 2006 Fantasy League Deadline Extended to 9th JuneBecuase of the lack of cricket over the past few weeks, it's been decided to extend the deadline for the ECC fantasy league to Friday June 9th so that the first points scoring Saturday will be June 10th. All other rules remain the same, and you're advised to get your entry form in as soon as possible. For more details, please look here:- Fantasy League 2006. 27th May 2006 More Rain and Gallery UpdateNo games were played at all this weekend, as poor weather put paid to any chances of cricket in most of Middlesex, the 1st XI being the worst done by, after a 4 and a haf hour round trip to Twickenham to watch it rain. On a more positive note, we've managed to update the Gallery with a final page of new changing room photos, as well as some snaps of the 5th XI making thier debut (and winning) on the new square on May 20th against Ealing. Take a look at the Photo Gallery for more details. 20th May 2006
2 Wins and a Draw in Wet WeekendDespite the overall winner this weekend just gone being the weather, there were still plenty of positives to be taken despite only 3 fixtures out of 8 being played due to some downpours that ranged from torrential to monsoon-like. One of the biggest bonuses of the weekend was the fact that we were able to play 3 genuine home games for the first time since the early 1990's as Dave Sans's 5th XI became the first Edmonton team to play on the new grocers strip. Starting with the 1st XI though, who hosted Indian Gymkhana in the Trailfinders Championship, and posted 194-9 after electing to bat first. Alan Barnard scored a patient unbeaten 50, whilst Tim Beeden and Danny Hare contributed well with the bat. In reply, Gymkhana could only manage 123-5 with Ciaran Dodds and Prabhu Balachandaran impressing with the ball. The 2nd XI traveled all the way round to Wycombe House to find that a lack of covers had put paid to their chances of playing. The 3rd XI also had their game called off at Acton, but the 4th XI continued their good start to the season with a thumping win against Polytechnic 3rd XI thanks to Colin Turner playing the anchor role for 57 despite taking a nasty blow to the face. Former 1st XI superstar Azid Sohoye returned to action with Edmonton striking a few lusty blows, and taking an absolute gem of a catch in the gulley. With the ball though, it was the Bala Gokul show, as he seamed his way to 6-19 as Poly collapsed to 83 all out in reply to our 176. The 5th XI were not to be upstaged however, bowling out 9-man Ealing for just 50, with Tony Kershaw and Anand Rooban both taking 4 for not many. Edmonton chased down the total with relative ease, thanks to the ever present Extras top scoring with 23 - how many times has this happened before for a side that's gone on with win the game? Sunday proved to be a complete wash-out, with all 3 games called off thanks to some pretty horrendous weather conditions. See the Reports Section for more details. 19th May 2006 ACR Electrical Services to Sponsor Sunday 1st XI![]() ACR Electrical Services - a Winchmore Hill based firm specialising in domestic & light commercial periodic testing & inspections - announced a sponsorship deal with the Sunday 1st XI earlier this week. The mutually beneficial arrangement helps to secure much needed funds for the club, whilst giving ACR publicity on the Edmonton CC website via the Sunday 1st XI reports, fixtures page and of course our sponsors page. We look forward to a long and sucessful association with another individual team sponsor. Sunday 1st XI skipper Adam Herron was quoted as saying "I'm delighted for my team to be associated with such a reputable local firm, let's hope this partnership can continue for seasons to come." He also quipped "I hear Doddsy is soon to be qualified, maybe he could get a job with ACR!" For more details of what ACR Electrical can do for you, please visit our Sponsors page. 18th May 2006 ECC Fantasy League 2006After the success of last season's competition, we once again will be running a Fantasy League for the 2006 season. The ECC Fantasy League has proved to be a popular, fun way of raising some money for the club, as well as stimulating much light-hearted debate about who is and isn't performing in the Saturday league! Hopefully we can break last years bumper record of entries and make it just as successful as before. Entering a team (or teams - there's no restriction on the number of entries per person) couldn't be easier. All you need to do is download a copy of the 2006 Fantasy League Rules & Points (MS Word), and select a team of 4 batsmen, 4 bowlers, 2 all-rounders and 1 keeper totalling £150 or less. To see who is available for selection, you can download a list of 2006 Fantasy League Player Prices (MS Excel). Alternatively, please see Tim Beeden in the bar for a paper copy of the players, rules and entry form. To submit your team, you can either email it to alan@edmontoncc.org or print off a 2006 Fantasy League Entry Form (MS Word), fill it in, and return it with your £5 entry fee to Alan Barnard, Tim Beeden or Tony Brown. A reminder though that the closing date for entries is Friday 2nd June in time for the Saturday 3rd of June, which is the first Saturday where fantasy league points will be scored. The competition itself will run until Saturday 9th September. Good luck all! 14th May 2006 Selection, Reports & MoreJust a brief note to say that the 2nd XI report vs. Ickenham has been posted today, courtesy of Gavin Mardell. Also, we're expecting to get the results section of the website fully up to date soon, so that you can gaze admiringly at some of those individual performances. Lastly, we've introduced a selection forum to the ECC forum (brought to you by R-Admin.co.uk), which will hopefully have most of the weekend's teams posted. Although this is not replacing phone calls / contact by the skipper, it does give you the chance to see your name, and reply saying you can/can't play in order to save your skipper time and expense. The selection forum can be found here, although you will need to register to use it. I'm hoping to also have details of the up-coming ECC Fantasy league posted online tomorrow night, as well as details of a couple more web sponsorship deals with local firms. 13th May 2006 Steady Start to League CampaignsThe Saturday league season kicked off in earnest this weekend, with all 5 teams in action in a day that was rain affected, but not totally spoilt. The 1st XI, away to Southall recorded a draw after being asked to field, but would have hoped for more reducing the hosts to 50-4 from 19 overs at one point. Mark Varley and Ciaran Dodds did the bulk of the bowling, and were rewarded with a couple of wickets apiece. In reply, Dave Hinnigan and Prabhu Balachandaran got us off to a perfect start, but a flurry of wickets saw us slump to 137-5 chasing 257 when the rain came - some sensible batting from all-rounder Danny Hare and keeper Chris Goddard making sure that there was no chance of a defeat. The 2nd XI, kicked off the season in the highest league for years against Ickenham (who were also promoted last term) at Hydeside. Restricting them to 146 all out was no mean feat, but the wicket had enough in it for the bowlers to cause a scare or two, and the game ended in a tense draw at 138-8. Star performers with the ball included skipper Archer Cornwall (4-23 from 17), Stav Elia and Kafi Khan (3 wickets apiece), whilst Dave Smith anchored the innings with a well constructed 42. The 3rd XI secured the only win of the day on Saturday against Twickenham, thanks in the most part to Colin Bennett, who plundered 98 from 24 overs to see us past the target of 164, after Andrew Thomas had taken an impressive 6-58. The 4th XI played out a bore draw against MTSSC at the Post Office ground, whilst the 5th XI slipped up to Wembley after solid start. Sunday Saw the 1st XI matched against Limers CC, in what turned out to be a one-sided affair with Saturday 1st XI skipper Tony Willett plundering an unbeaten 161, including 34 from a single over. Gavin Mardell played the supporting role in his 51, as we racked up 251-2. Wickets were shared evenly, as Limers were dismissed for 103. See the Reports Section for more details. 10th May 2006 ECC Casual Polo Shirts Now Available      ![]() Edmonton CC announced the release of a stylish new Polo shirt yesterday, which will be on sale to all club members and supporters from today. The shirt, which is supplied by Direct Boot & Embroidery of Enfield, has the ECC badge and name embroidered on the left chest as well as the 'E-Unit' nickname, and has a Braydon Motor Company sponsors logo on the right chest. The back of the shirt is personalised, with your name or nickname across the top, and a number of your choice from 0-99. It's worth bearing in mind that we've already sold about 20 of these as of today, so some numbers may now be taken. The shirt is available in all sizes from Small through to 4XL, and will cost £20. Orders can be placed through Alan Barnard either in person or via email at the usual address - alan@edmontoncc.org. Please state your shirt size, preferred number (as well as a second choice) and your name / nickname. Please note that you can have multiple shirts with different names, but you must keep the same number. Let's try to sell as many of these as possible, I'm sure it will boost the profile of the club if lots of us are wearing co-ordinated ECC clothing, so spread the word! 9th May 2006 ECC Forum Back OnlineI'm sure that most of you will have noticed now that the ECC Forum has been off line for a little over a week. The problems started when NTL (gotta love 'em) changed the IP address on the connection where the server is hosted. To prevent this from happening again, our good friend Luke 'Radebe' Foulger from R-Admin has agreed to host the forum for us (thanks fella!). As such, you will need to update any links you have for the forum to point to www.r-admin.co.uk/eccforum/default.asp. I've also updated all the links to the forum from the website, so you can just click through from the left hand menu if it suits you. Lastly, I'd like to know what you think about the new look of the forum - we've decided to bring it more in line with how the rest of the website looks, but if you've get any views, then please contact me via the usual methods. 8th May 2006 Wet Weekends to Start the SeasonIt was a pretty dreary couple of weekends that saw the season start off with less of a bang, and more of a dull thud. With early season weather the order of the day, we only managed to get 3 XIs out on each of first two days, with only Andy Cooper's Sunday 2nd XI recording any sucess with a win away to Holtwhites Trinibis. One fo the more positive factors of the weekend was the presence of lots of home grown talent across all XIs. The 1st XI missed out to a strong and competitive Highgate side at home, despite a destructive unbeaten 140 from Dave Hinnigan. The 2nd XI also struggled in the corresponding fixture. On Sunday, No.3 batsman Adeel impressed with 120 against Clifton. Monday saw the 1st XI slip out of the Middlesex Federation Vase at the first hurdle, falling to MTSSC in a low scoring game. We perhaps gave them 30 too many runs, despite Ciaran Dodds excelling with 4 wickets. Stav Elia also bowled tidily to pick up two, but 182 was gaoing to be a tough ask on a wicket that was offering encouragement to the seamers. Prabhu Balachandaran anchored the innings with a solid 50, but nobody else managed to trouble the scorers to any great degree, as we were 165 all out from 43. The weekend just gone also saw a complete washout on the Saturday, with the annual 3rds vs. 4ths fixture the first to fall victim. The 2nd XI returned early from Birkbeck College, whilst the 1st XI recovered to 100-4 after being 5-3 against the same opposition at home, Tim Beeden batting well for 35 in what was shaping up to be another low-scoring game. The highlight of the day was a famous victory for Mark Varley's side in the now-legendary Hydeside underwater 5-a-side stump cricket extravaganza. Meanwhile on Sunday, the 1st XI took on Chingford, and lost out, despite getting within 15 runs of Chingford's competitive 235. 29th April 2006 Metchem Announce Sponsorship of Saturday 5th XI![]() Metchem Marine Ltd. a Romford-based freight forwarding company announced a sponsorship deal with the Saturday 5th XI earlier this week. The mutually beneficial arrangement helps to secure much needed funs for the club, whilst giving Metchem publicity on the Edmonton CC website via the 5th XI reports, fixtures page and of course our sponsors page. We look forward to a long and sucessful association with hopefully the first of many individual team sponsors. For more details of what Metchem can do for you, please visit our Sponsors page. Also, we are still looking for sponsorts for all 7 of our other weekend teams, as well as sponsors of Colts teams at all age groups - for a very small outlay, you can have your business associated with a team of your choice, on a website that gets upwards of 8000 hits yearly mostly from people in the local Edmonton and Middlesex areas. For more details, please email alan@edmontoncc.org to find out more. 20th April 2006 Open Day for New Players - 30th AprilAny new players that are interested in joining Edmonton Cricket Club for the forthcoming season are invited along to an open day at the club from 12:00 midday onwards.
