Edmonton CC Pitch / Nets Rental

We have been asked to make people aware that Edmonton CC's facilities are available for other clubs / teams to rent during the cricket season. The main pitches at our Hydeside ground are available to hire for corporate / midweek matches, and as part of this package, we offer full changing and shower facilities as well as the use of the club's excellent bar. Also, the back pitch is free for a number of Sundays this season, with the same package of changing rooms and bar access. In addition to this, our new nets can be rented on a per-lane basis should any club be interested in using them for practice. Because our colts and seniors use the nets Monday-Wednesday, we're unable to accommodate rentals on these nights, but any other weekday evening, or at weekends may be possible, as well as certain times during the daytime. For more details on renting any of Edmonton Cricket Club's facilities, please contact Roger Sans, on either roger@edmontoncc.org, or by phone: 020 8363 1250.

Season Draws to a Close

Now that the league campaigns have finished, we move into friendly match territory for the rest of the season as we take on fairly local opponents in easy paced games, where we get a chance to look at some of the promising youngsters that are coming through the colts set up. On the website front, we're hoping to have all the results updated at the end of the season so that you can see who has done what with bat or ball over the last 3 weekends of the season. We're also expecting a final update to the averages shortly after the last couple of games have been played, so watch this space.

Also, a reminder to everyone that we'll be holding a Quiz Evening on Friday 12th of October at the club. It's a 7.30pm meet for an 8.00pm start, and will cost £2 per head. It'll be good to see as many people there as possible, as the quizes are an important fundraiser for the club. Tables are 6 people, but even if you're on your own or don't have 6 people, we'll be able to find a place for you on one of the tables. Sunday Silverware Confirmed

To cap off an impressive season for the club, it has been confirmed by the Chess Valley League that both our First XI and Second XI are champions of their respective divisions. The 1st XI, who faced stiff competition from several close rivals managed to secure top spot thanks to a 9 wicket win over promotion chasing Harrow in division two of the league. This will mean that they compete in the top division for the first time since entering the league in 2001, which is a welcome challenge. Captain Gavin Mardell was quoted as saying "I'm delighted with the division win, I've faced a few challenges since taking over the captaincy, but the players have responded magnificently, and I can't wait to take on the elite of the Chess Valley League next season". The 2nd XI on the other hand have already reached the top of the pile, with Linserd Miller's side gaining 4 points from the final game to narrowly pip Winchmore Hill's second XI to the top division title, and bring home the second piece of silverware of a successful season. To view the full league tables, you can follow this link: Chess Valley League Tables.

Great Finish to the League Season

The weekend just gone was yet another excellent weekend for the club, with 3 Saturday league victories, and a clean sweep of Sunday wins to see us challenging at the right end of the table for the first and second XI Chess Valley teams. Starting with the Saturday though, the 1st XI travelled to Glaxo, and racked up an impressive 284-5 declared from 49 overs, thanks to Anil Sharma's 110 and Dave Hinnigan's 76 as they shared a 2nd wicket partnership of 155. In reply, Wali Khan took 4, and Kevin Lawrence and Mark Varley took 3 apiece to secure a resounding 181 run victory, and second place in the league table. The 2nd XI took on Winchmore Hill at Hydeside, and posted 199-9 from their overs, thanks largely to Adam Herron hitting 62. Winchmore Hill replied with 193-8 after a tense finish saw us take 2 wickets from the last over of the game. For the record, young seamer Ciaran Dodds chipped in with 3 wickets for Edmonton. The 3rd XI travelled to Acton and returned with the points after restricting them to 201-8, with skipper Linserd Miller taking 4 wickets. Errol Crawford (115 not out) was the star of the show in the run chase as we passed the total with 7 wickets to spare. The 4th XI made light work of 9 man Polytechnic's 3rd XI in Greenford, bowling them out for just 88, with Salman Khan taking 3-1. A relatively easy run chase saw us win with 8 wickets in hand, and gave the team a nice early finish to their afternoon. The 5th XI slipped up at home to a strong Calthorpe side, losing by 161 runs, despite the best efforts of Alex Coxall, who scored a battling 40 in a disappointing total of just 88. Moving on to Sunday, we await the results of one other match to find out if the 1st XI will be promoted as champions of division 2 of the Chess Valley league, or just promoted, whilst the 2nd XI are hoping for results to go their way so they can win the 1st division of their league. The Sunday 1sts took on Harrow at Hydeside, and restricted them to 156 all out, thanks largely to Stavros Elia and Parvez Akram taking 3 wickets each. In reply, Wali Khan crashed 67, whilst Chris Arul played a patient game to notch up an unbeaten 50, as we passed the visitors total with just 1 wicket down. The 2nd XI had their game against the same opposition conceded after Harrow were unable to field a second XI. The 3rd XI took on Millfield in a 40 over friendly, and made it 3 out of 3 after Micky Billson and Tommy Boxer both weighed in with half centuries as we chased down 187 with a couple of overs to spare. We'll be updating the site over the next few days with confirmation of the final league standings for both Sunday XIs, and hopefully we'll be able to say that we've picked up some silverware for the club to make it an even more successful season. See the Reports Section for more details.

Averages and Reports

We've got another report added to the site for the thrilling tied game that the 1st XI played out a couple of weekends ago against Harrow St. Marys, which comes courtesy of Mark Varley. To view this, take a look at the Reports Section of the website. We've also just updated the club averages and Fantasy League table, and these can be viewed, as usual, in the Averages Section of the website.

1st September 2007

2nd XI Fly the ECC Flag

It was an up and down weekend this one, with the 2nd XI setting the standard by securing an impressive win at Highgate to keep up their chances of a last ditch promotion. This was secured thanks to the efforts of skipper Stavros Elia who picked up 4-57 with his off break bowling, and Ramesh Gunalan, who made an impressive 86 to see us home to victory chasing down 216. The 1st XI bowled out Southall for 211 at Hydeside, with Anil Sharma picking up 5-46, and looked to be in the box seat at the halfway stage. A below par batting display saw us cling on for a draw at 139-9 thanks to the collective blocking skills of Mark Varley and Kevin Lawrence. The 3rd XI also clung on for a draw against British Airways, who made 264, with Linserd Miller picking up an amazing 8-58. Sadly we could not chase this down, and had to settle for a draw with Alan Lord making 45. The 4th XI played out a thriller against North London, with Daz Sivathasan scoring 94 in our total of 205-6. The hosts fell just 12 runs short in the end, thanks in part to young seamer Paul Baker taking 3-32. The 5th XI avoided defeat at Wembley thanks to some slow play from the batsmen, setting for a share of the points with 61-6 after the hosts had racked up 186-9 with James Wier and Bill Bilimoria both taking 3 wickets. Sunday was a disappointment for the top two sides, who slipped up in the Chess Valley, the 1st XI going down at home to Chorleywood, with only Alan Barnard seriously troubling the scorers with an unbeaten 56. The 2nd XI were on the wrong end of 325-6 away to Harrow Town, and couldn't get within 100 runs, despite 68 from Vince Drayton. The 3rd XI ensured that is wasn't a hat-trick of defeats, beating Enfield Rosineri by 4 wickets thanks to Alexis Jagdeo's 59 and Micky Billson's 73, which amazingly included 32 runs from one over! See the Reports Section for more details.

1st XI Win Again

We've got very little information from this weekend of rain affected games, other than from the 1st XI, who managed to pick up an excellent win at home to Calthorpe in the nick of time before the rain came. Bowling first, Kevin Lawrence's side were pleased to dismiss the visitors for just 142 on a decent batting pitch, thanks to a mammoth 22 over spell from Tony Willett, taking 3 wickets along the way, as well as 4 wickets from Anil Sharma. In reply, we managed to chase down for the loss of 4 in 23 overs thanks to a quickfire 81 from Danny Hare. The 2nd XI took on Harrow Town, and posted a respectable 200+ total batting first, thanks to half centuries from Ramesh Gunalan and Prabhu Balachandiran. This was enough to secure us a share of the points, as the rain came in. The 3rd XI couldn't bowl out Twickenham, despite the best efforts of Linserd Miller, who took 5 wickets. Earlier in the day, Alan Lord had hit 70, whilst Edgar Berridge picked up his first ton for the club. The 4th XI slipped up away to a strong Teddington side, whilst the 5th XI fared little better away to GWR. All games on the Sunday were off due to the weather. See the Reports Section for more details.

Edmonton CC Race Night - September 1st

Just a quick reminder for those of you that have not heard: we will be running a Video Race Night on Saturday September the 1st from 8pm at the clubhouse. The evening should prove to be a good one, and I'm informed that there will be 6 horse races, 1 camel(!) race, and one pig(!?!) race. Admission is free, and hopefully as many people as possible can come along to support the club in what should be a fantastic evening for all the family. As well as a race night we will also be having a BBQ, similar to the setup for the club BBQ in late July. It will be the usual BBQ fare of sausages, burgers or a vegetarian option, all served up by our expert ECC chefs.

More information is available now from Alan Barnard, Tony Kershaw, Alan Porter or by emailing us at alan@edmontoncc.org.

Also, just to let you know that we've just updated the Averages and the Fantasy League tables up to last weekend, including the missing scores from the Saturday 3rd XI, so everything should be up to date now. As always, thanks to Tony Brown for his work in compiling the averages.

1st XI Show The Way

It was the 1st XI that flew the ECC flag high this weekend just gone, with two impressive victories in the Saturday and Sunday leagues, and some good performances to boot. Starting on Saturday, where the visitors to Hydeside were Old Actonians, just a couple of places below us in the league, and looking to overtake us. A wicket from the first ball of the game, and their eventual dismissal for 153 put us in the box seat, and much of this came courtesy of Wali Khan, who picked up 6-43 from 20 overs. In reply, Anil Sharma led the charge; with 88 not out, as we eased home with 6 wickets in hand. The 2nd XI found themselves chasing a daunting 278 away to North Middlesex, but despite a valiant chase, spearheaded by Prabhu Balachandiran, who score 85, we were bowled out for 213. The 3rd XI hosted Highgate, and were dismissed for 199, despite half centuries from Ciaran Dodds and Dave Baker, and the visitors eased past our total without losing a wicket. The 4th XI also slipped up away at Harrow St. Marys. The 5th XI travelled to Birkbeck College, and thanks to Chris Pratt scoring 48, we managed to post 151, but the hosts made light work of this, chasing for the loss of just one. Sunday saw Bessborough travel to Hydeside in the Chess Valley league, and post a massive 274-7. Half centuries from Anil Sharma, Danny Hare and Alan Barnard meant that we were able to chase down the total with 2 overs to spare. The 2nd XI took on Chingford in the same competition, scoring 236-9 with Colin Bennett making 53. Chingford could only manage 210 all out in reply, with Shiva Mahela taking 5-43 and skipper Linserd Miller picking up 3-25. The 3rd XI won comfortably against Mill Hill Scorpions; with run machine Chris Pratt scoring 49 out of 247-7, and captain and resident super slow bowling wicket machine Alan Porter taking 4-11 as the visitors could only manage 178 all out. See the Reports Section for more details.

Chess Valley Tables Added

Hot off the press, you can now view the Chess Valley Sunday League tables online from our website as of this week, as we've added a new link on the left hand side of the website. You can have a look at the latest Chess Valley League tables here. As well as this, the averages section of the website has been updated as of this weekend just gone for all games except the Saturday 3rd XI against Ealing. Thanks as always to Tony Brown for providing this service.

Sunday Better than Saturday

Not the greatest weekend for the club this one, as we picked up 2 draws and 3 defeats on the Saturday, but things were improved with 3 wins from 3 on the Sunday, including both 1st and 2nd teams taking full points from their Chess Valley fixtures. Starting with the Saturday 1st XI, who travelled to Indian Gymkhana, and struggled in the heat as the hosts racked up 236-4. In reply, it was a damage limitation exercise, and despite Anil Sharma making 63, we stuttered to 136-7. The 2nd XI came up against Old Actonians at Hydeside, and the visitors posted an impressive 232-6, with Micky Billson taking 3 wickets for 47. In reply, only Ash Perera with 43 not out offered any resistance, and we were bowled out for a less than impressive 90. The 4th XI travelled to Southgate, and managed to lose by 146 runs, I think probably the less said about that one the better. The 5th XI took on Highgate, and lost by a similar margin, despite Jack Aylott taking 3-68. On Sunday, the 1st XI made the trip up to the stunning Old Albanians ground, just north of St. Albans, in a Chess Valley fixture. The hosts posted 221 on a good batting track, with the wickets shared around, although youngster Basil Akram impressed with the ball on debut. In reply, Edmonton cruised to victory, thanks to a blistering 114 from Anil Sharma, and an unbeaten 73 from Dave Hinnigan. The 2nd XI took on Aztecs after their Chess Valley game was conceded by Kenton. Batting first, we made 281-7, with Dave Rai and Ash Perera both making 50s. In reply, Aztecs were 191 all out with Edgar Burridge taking 3-23. The 3rd XI took on Greenwood Park, and posted 240-8, with Alan Lord and Tommy Harmer making 50s. The visitors were dismissed for 164, with Alan Lord and Jack Aylott taking 3 wickets apiece. See the Reports Section for more details.

Averages & 1987 League Tables Updated

Just a quick update to let you know that we've just updated the Averages and the Fantasy League tables up to last weekend. There are a few results missing, so things may not look quite as they should do, and as a reminder to skippers, please can you bring your scorebooks to selection on Monday night, so that Tony can update all the averages. Also, there has to be some kind of problem in the Fantasy League tables as far as I'm concerned, with 3 Barnards propping up the table, and Tim Beeden leading the way. Shocking! You can have a look at the averages here. Ans you can have a look at the 1987 league tables here.

28th July 2007

1987 League Sides Lead the Way

Another weekend without rain, this weekend just gone, but it was not the most successful for the club, as we had minimal league victories, although the top two 1987 league sides fared well in their respective games. Starting with the first XI, who hosted second placed Birkbeck College, the visitors batted first and racked up a massive 289-7, despite Wali Khan's 3 wickets. In reply, it was Khan again who offered the most resistance, but we had to settle for batting out for a draw after the Afghan superstar was finally out for a blistering 108. The 2nd XI took a weakened side round to Bessborough, and were dismissed for 195, with Ash Perera top scoring with 59. The hosts passed our total with 3 wickets remaining, despite Prabhu Balachandiran's best efforts of 4-85. The 3rd XI fared better, skittling Wembley for just 138, and then chasing it down for 2 wickets, Edgar Berridge top scoring with 49. The 4th XI also completed a successful run chase after 3-41 from Kemal Panchal had restricted MTSSC to just 129 all out. In reply, we chased down with 5 wickets to spare, as hard hitting Glen Brown made 49. The 5th XI struggled to 145 against Ickenham, and despite Tony Barker's 3-24, lost by 6 wickets. On Sunday, the 2nd XI were rained off against Walthamstow, so it was down to the 3rd XI to fly the flag for the club against Norsemen, and they did so, scoring 195, and bowling out the footballers for just 101 in an entertaining and enjoyable game. See the Reports Section for more details.

You'll be happy to know that we've got a couple more reports up on the website today, as they've just dropped into my inbox. Secondly, we have a report from Mark Varley for the rain aborted game this weekend just gone againt Osterley for the 1st XI, which can be found here. As always, if anyone wants to write a report for the website, you're more than welcome, so please send it through to us at the usual email address. Oh, and hopefully see you all the the ECC Club BBQ tomorrow evening from 6.30pm - the weather is supposed to be very nice which makes a change from the last few weeks.

Averages Upsated & Report Posted

We're pleased to announce that the Averages Section of the website has been updated with the latest set of statistics from our resident statistician, Tony Brown. Things have been a little slow this season due to the weather, which is why we've only just got round to posting them online, but as always, I'd like to say a big 'thank you' to Tony for all his hard work around getting the averages compiled, which is a very time-consuming task for him. Tony has asked me to point out that there may be some innacuracies in the averages, which we'll look to iron out as soon as possible, but if anyone spots anything obviously wrong, please can they drop tony an email (tony@edmontoncc.org) letting him know what's amiss. In addition to this, there is now a report posted for the Winchmore Hill game for the Saturday 2nd XI, played back on July 7th, courtesy of Martin Loveday. This can be found in the Reports Section of the website.

4th XI Win Well, But Rain Dominates

I know this is starting to sound like I'm cutting and pasting from previous weeks, but we really just can't seem to shake this bad weather that we've been getting lately. It was another weekend of rain frustration for the 1st XI, as they travelled to the champions and top placed Osterley at their impressive, newly refurbished Richings Park home, and had the hosts 35-5 (With Wali Khan bagging another impressive 4-12) when the skies opened to put an end to proceedings for the day. The 2nd XI had some batting practice against Enfield before rain once again intervened (Chris Arul top scoring with 49), and the 3rd XI failed to complete their fixture against Alexandra Park. The 4th XI was the one highlight of Saturday, making sure that we won 100% of games completed, bowling out Alexandra Park for just 83 at Hydeside, and then knocking off the runs for the loss of 1, with Micky Billson bagging an unbeaten 45. The 5th XI were rained off against Perivale. Sunday saw better weather, and 3 games completed, with the top 2 XIs having outings in the Chess Valley league. The 1st XI struggled against Osterley as they posted 265 from 45 with Ciaran Dodds taking 3 wickets, but despite Alan Barnard's 54, we fell 25 runs short. The 2nd XI travelled to Harpenden, and posted 170 with Colin Bennett top scoring with 45. The hosts had a few nervy moments, but passed our score with 4 wickets in hand. The 3rd XI took on Titanic, and were sunk (sorry about that) by the visitors, despite Glen Brown's brutal 83 out of a team total of 173 all out. For the record, Titanic won by 5 wickets.

14th July 2007

1sts & 2nds Both Win Well

Another good weekend for the top teams at the club, with the 1st XI showing the way against Old Lyonians at Hydeside, to record their 3rd victory on the bounce (in terms of games played at any rate), moving them up to 3rd in the table. In a similar vein to the previous week, another excellent bowling display from Wali Khan (5-57) ensured that the visitors were dismissed for a below par 140, and in reply, Adeel Saeed was the pick of the batsmen, seeing us past the total with an unbeaten 49. The 2nd XI had Prabhu Balachandiran to thank for their win against South Hampstead, with the Indian picking up 3 wickets as the hosts were bowled out for 222. In reply, Prabhu carried his bat for 122 to see the side home at the death, with Martin Loveday and Chris Arul contributing valuable runs. The 3rd XI had to settle for a draw against a strong looking Brondesbury side, after the visitors posted an imposing 281-5. Justin Benedetti played a controlled rearguard innings of 49 to make sure that we got the draw points though, as we finished up with 163-8. The 4th XI faired worse against Mill Hill Village, the home side scoring 271-8, despite Archie McArthur's 5-101, but there were few positives from the batting, which recorded a below-par 114 all out. The 5th XI slipped up to Indian Gymkhana, but in many respects, our total of 126 was impressive given that we were 2-5 at one stage, Tommy Boxer rescuing things somewhat with 45. Gymkhana passed the total with little trouble for the loss of just 2. The Saturday 6th XI were also in action with Roger Sans and Tony Kershaw managing a side of youngsters at home to Chingford, and securing a creditable draw. On Sunday, the 2nd XI took on London Maccabi in a rain affected 30 over thrash. The rain didn't appear to have affected the batting qualities of the wicket, however, as Maccabi made 255-5 with only Linserd Miller (3-30) coming out of the first half with any credit. In reply, Gavin Mardell and Dave Rai both made half centuries, but the run rate was just too much in the end, as we fell 35 runs short. The 3rd XI took on Goodwill Wanderers, chasing down 177 for the lost of 5 after Tony Barker had taken 3 wickets earlier on. See the Reports Section for more details.

7th July 2007

1st XI Show The Way

I'm not sure what the real surprise was this weekend… the fact that we had 3 impressive Saturday wins out of 5, or the fact that we actually played some cricket, after the weather finally took a turn for the better. The 1st XI were at home to Glaxo in the Middlesex Championship, and after winning the toss, and inserting the visitors found themselves very much in control after Tony Willett took 5-34, and Wali Khan 4-35 as we bowled them out for just 77. In reply, it was mostly plain sailing, and an unbeaten 45 from Anil Sharma saw us home in 19 overs for the loss of just 2. The 2nd XI travelled just up the road to Winchmore Hill to take on their local rivals, and slipped up, despite setting the hosts 176 to win in just 43 overs. Prabhu Balachandiran starred with the bat (61), and the ball (5-45), but this wasn't enough, as the hosts stuttered home for the loss of 7 with 3 overs to spare. A special mention should also go to Ciaran Dodds, who took over the keeping duties after an injury to Adam Herron, and did so very professionally. The 3rd XI took on Acton 4th XI, and Andrew Thomas starred, taking 7-27 to restrict the West London side to 139 all out. In reply, we chased down for the loss of 4, with Chat Gallage making an unbeaten 43. The 4th XI, also playing at home, but on the Grocers for the first time, restricted Polytechnic to just 80, and then chased down with ease. The 5th XI secured a creditable draw against Calthorpe, scoring 169-9, with Alan Lord top scoring on 51. It was Lord again that starred with the ball, taking 3 wickets, but that wasn't enough to see us take all the points, and we had to settle for a draw, with the hosts on 129. Sunday saw the 1st XI handed a walkover, after Tring couldn't field a side due to cup commitments. The 2nd XI had another win thanks to run rate, scoring 220-4 from 36 in reply to Wembley's 259-8, with Errol Crawford (64) and Dave Baker (66 not out) ensuring that we took all the points in a rain affected game. The 3rd XI hosted British Libraries, and bowled the Librarians out for 172, with Tony Barker contributing an impressive 4-41. Alan Porter's side chased down for the loss of 4, with Justin Benedetti top scoring with a solid looking 69. See the Reports Section for more details.

No Change in the Weather

Amazingly, this weekend just gone has seen the second staright washout (and the third in a row for the 1st XI) after inclement weather put paid to all fixtures on both days. This really has been a complete nightmare of a June by all account, the only slight saving grace being the fact that it's a lot easier for us to update the website when the weather is like this. Fingers crossed, as we''re into July now, we should have some better news on the weather front, and hopefully something to report after next weekend.

What a washout this weekend turned out to be, with the 1st XI getting rained off at home to Harrow St Mary's after Wali Khan had taken 5-33 from 19 to bowl us well into the box seat. The 2nd XI had to settle for a point in a rain affected game against a strong looking Hornsey side, whilst the 3rd XI was abandoned after they had smashed 270 against Richmond, thanks in the most part to West Indian batsmen Errol Crawford and Colin Bennett, who both posted quickfire half centuries. The 4th XI were able to get a result, but it was rain affected, and a draw, despite Safir Butt's 104. The 5th XI took home all the points, as Twickenham had managed to double book their ground, although that said, this wasn't before we'd travelled to Moseley to find out! On Sunday, the 1st XI were washed out against Barnet B's in the Chess Valley League, whilst the 2nd XI, again thanks to Colin Bennett who crashed 117 managed to pip local rivals Winchmore Hill on run rate, after their innings was curtailed by yet more rain. See the Reports Section for more details.

4 League Wins!

It was a good weekend for the league sides on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, with 4 wins and an action packed tie in the 6 games that were played, as well as one draw, and one abandonment, but we have to count ourselves lucky, as much of the cricket played across Middlesex was washed out due to typical June weather. The 1st XI, sadly were the team to fall foul of the weather, travelling round to Calthorpe, and finding that their square resembled a lake after a couple of heavy downpours. The umpires gave it as much time as possible to drain off, but things weren't improving, and the game had to be called off. The 2nd XI faired better, picking up a win against Harrow Town at Hydeside, after the visitors were restricted to 210 all out, with Tony Willett picking up 6-59 from 18 overs. In reply, we passed their total for the loss of 7, thanks to Dave Rai's 59, and a series of contributions from everyone else in the side. The 3rd XI made the long trip to Twickenham, and made 194-7, with Fahim Awan top scoring with 70. The hosts could only make 126-6 in reply, as the overs ran out, Vikram Masih picking up an impressive 3-3. The 4th XI dominated Teddington from start to finish at home, rattling up a massive 277 all out, with Daz Sivathasan hitting 59, and Paul Hare 64. In reply, the visitors could only struggle to 70 all out, with Archie McArthur (5-22) and Micky Billson (3-23) doing the bulk of the damage. The 5th XI hosted GWR, and posted an impressive 236-7, Tony Kershaw top scoring with 73, and in a massively tense finish, GWR were bowled out for 236 as well, with Tony Poyo picking up an impressive 4-29 with his bowling debut. On Sunday, the 1st XI hosted Chipperfield in the first Chess Valley league game of the season, but some sloppy fielding and bowling meant that we were chasing 226 to win from 45. David Hinnigan (87) and Adam Herron (60) made light work of the task, as we passed their total for 2 with 10 overs to spare. The 2nd XI took on Eastcote, being limited to just 157 all out, but managed to bag a win, and skipper Linserd Miller span his way to 5-27, as the hosts were bowled out for 134, competing a tight 23 run victory. See the Reports Section for more details.

Reports Posted & Fantasy League

So everyone knows, there's a couple of new reports posted on the website, courtesy of Simon Roche, who recounts the 1st XI's victory against Old Actonians, and David Sans, who recounts the 5th XI's non victory against Birkbeck College from the weekend just gone. These can be found in the Reports Section of the website as usual. Also, a reminder to everyone that that the Edmonton CC Fantasy League start date has been extended to June 16th, so all entries should be returned to Tim Beeden or Tony Brown by the 16th before the start of the day's matches. Khan Ton Inspires 1st XI Win

It was another weekend of mixed fortunes for the club, with a share of wins draws and defeats. Importantly though, the 1st XI finally managed to get the win under their belt that they've been threatening, overcoming Old Actonians in West London. Wali Khan was the star of the show with the bat, crashing 115 as we chased down 222 with an over to spare after Prabhu Balachandiran had taken 3-71, and Danny Hare had bowled an impressive 18 over spell with good control. The 2nd XI came up against a strong looking North Middlesex site at Hydeside, the visitors racking up a daunting 236-4, with Martin Loveday bowling almost unchanged for 24 overs to pick up 4-73. In reply, we stuttered to 151-9 to secure 1 point for a draw, with Dave Rai the only person to seriously trouble the scorers with 49. The 3rd XI picked up a draw against Highgate, with Andrew Thomas taking an impressive 7-73 as Highgate scored 184. In reply, we could only muster 129-7, and a share of the points. The 4th XI took on Harrow St Mary's, scoring 244, with Waheed Ahmed and Amir Sohail the pick of the batting with 89 and 61 respectively. The visitors however managed to chase down our total with 3 wickets in hand. The 5th XI also slipped up at home to Birkbeck College, after being bowled out for 166 with Cheetan Khatri top scoring with 51. The visitors eased past our total for the loss of 4 wickets. Sunday saw the 2nd XI take on Willesden Green, and some impressive batting from Ash Perera (61) and James Hazell (56) saw us score an imposing 285-7. In reply, Green were never really in the hunt, and they stuttered to 141 all out. The 3rd XI won a tightly contested game against GWR, scoring 208 all out, and then scraping home by 7 runs, with Alan Porter taking 4-46. See the Reports Section for more details.

2nd June 2007

2nds, 3rds, 4ths All Winners

It was another weekend of disappointment for the 1st XI, as they slipped up to a well drilled Indian Gymkhana side on Saturday, being bowled out for a less than impressive 128 on a decent batting wicket at Hydeside. In reply, Gymkhana passed our total for just 4 wickets, to leave us near the bottom of the table. The 2nd XI provided some cheer however, as they eased past Old Actonians, bowling the hosts out for 128, with Stav Elia (3-23) and Ciaran Dodds (3-43) taking the wickets. Chasing down such a small total with our batting depth didn't prove to be too much of a problem, and we passed the total for the loss of 4 wickets in a mirror image of the 1st XI, James Hazell contributing an unbeaten 43. The 3rd XI also faired well, recovering from a precarious 120-6 to finally post 254, with Patrick Coombs and Billy Pete both scoring half centuries. Ealing were then dismissed for 180, with Coombs completing a man of the match display by taking 5-37. The 4th XI were not to be outdone, however, and bowled Southgate out for 117 with Archie McArthur taking 5-57, whilst in reply, we only lost a single wicket as Justin Benedetti anchored the innings with an unbeaten 44. The 5th XI didn't do as well, being dismissed for 92 by a strong looking Highgate side, and then only taking one wicket in reply. On Sunday, the 1st XI lost out in the Ibex Cup to Southall, allowing the hosts to get to 224-7, despite Chris Arul taking 3-40. In reply, we could only muster 138, with Alan Barnard top scoring with 42. The 2nd XI faired better, beating GWR, with Colin Bennett weighing in with 82, as we chased down 210 for the loss of 6 wickets. A young 3rd XI took on Enfield Invicta on the Grocers Ground, scoring 175-8. Alan Porter was the star with the ball, using his loopy off spin to bag 6 wickets for 41. See the Reports Section for more details.

More Reports!

It's been a bumper week for reports, with a couple just dropping into my inbox in the last few minutes. Adam Herron's is the first, fo the 1st XI's disappointing defeat against Birkbeck College in Greenford last weekend. The other report comes courtesy of David Sans, and is for his 5th XI's rain affected friendly match on Saturday at home to South Loughton (arranged after Ickenham could not fulfil their league fixture). These reports can both be found in the Reports Section of the website. Just on a side point, I think it's worth mentioning that those people who write the reports do so in their own time, and for very little reward other than to keep the club website as up to date and informative as possible, so a big thank you to Mark Varley, Adam Herron, Martin Loveday, Gavin Mardell, Tim Beeden & David Sans for their contributions so far. If anyone else would like to write a report for the website for any game that they watch, or play in, feel free to do so, it will give the regulars some time off to recharge their literary batteries. All you need to do is just drop your report, no matter how short, to us at the usual email address.

1st XI Slip, but Rain the Real Winner

A disappointing weekend for the club this, with rain affecting most of the games, and a poor result for the 1st XI. On a brighter note, the 2nd XI performed admirably to defy the weather and secure a winning draw. Starting with the 1st XI, who travelled round to Greenford to face Birkbeck College, things were looking positive when we restricted them to 160 all out, thanks in the most part to Wali Khan taking 5 wickets, but off spinners Prabhu Balachandiran and Julian Fletcher chipped in with 2 wickets each. In reply, some poor shot selection and inspired fielding saw us fall 7 runs short of the total, despite some excellent late resistance from Gavin Mardell. The 2nd XI took on Bessborough at home, and came out of it with a winning draw. Batting first, we declared after 48 overs on 233-4, with James Hazell scoring 60, and Chris Arul an unbeaten 81. In reply, we managed to bowl our required overs, taking 5 wickets for 75 in the process with Ciaran Dodds bagging 3 of them. The 3rd XI made the trip to Wembley to play their 4th XI, restricting the hosts to 185 all out, Andrew Thomas taking 5-34. In reply, we'd reached 92-4 when the heavens opened, and play had to be abandoned. The 4th XI hosted MTSSC at Hydeside, and let the visitors run away with 255-7, despite Micky Bilson's tidy 3-40. In reply we'd made 122-2 with Justin Benedetti unbeaten on 58 when rain halted proceedings for the day. The 5th XI took on South Loughton in a home friendly, as Ickenham had forfeited their 1987 league fixture. Batting first, we declared on 164-6, and had South Loughton 30-1 when the rain came. All Sunday's games were off due to the weather, as was the Enfield 6-a-side tournament on the Monday. See the Reports Section for more details.

Loveday Inspires 2nd XI Win, 1st XI Secure Draw

It was a good weekend of cricket at ECC this weekend just gone, although perhaps could have been even better. The 1st XI gained a creditable draw against last season's champions Osterley, but made hard work of it at the end. Wali Khan (3-86) was the pick of the bowlers, as the visitors were restricted off the first 30 overs, but a flurry of late hitting from the Osterley batsmen saw them rack up a mammoth 322-5 from just 50 overs. In reply, things were looking good, as Danny Hare hit a quick fire 55, but a flurry of quick wickets meant that we had to block out, with Adam Herron and Mark Varley surviving 12 overs at the end to ensure that we got the 5 draw points. The 2nd XI travelled to local rivals Enfield, and posted a solid 170, thanks to a late partnership between Dave Baker and Daz Sivathasan. In reply, Enfield finished up on 140 all out, thanks in the most part to some impressive seam bowling from Martin Loveday (who took 7 wickets), backed up ably by Ciaran Dodds. The 3rd XI had to settle for a draw at home to Alexandra Park, with the visitors smashing 269, despite Linserd Miller's 4-79. In reply, Colin Bennett's 51 was the highlight in a total of 217-8. The 4th XI took on Alexandra Park at the Racecourse Ground, with Paul Baker taking 4-17 as the hosts made 171 on a tricky wicket. In reply, we couldn't quite get the win, and had to shut up shop at 140-7, with Waheed Ahmed scoring a solid 68. The 5th XI travelled to Perrivale, and a slow over rate from the hosts meant that there was not enough time to take the required wickets, after we'd posted 229 with Andrew Cooper scoring a maiden 100. Sunday saw the 1st XI take on North London Muslims, and post an impressive 261-8, with Edgar Berridge (57) and Dave Rai (56) in the runs. In a nail biting finish, Muslims were bowled out for 254, thanks largely to Linserd Miller's 4-12. The 2nd XI also secured a win against Hadley Sports, chasing down 206 for the loss of 7, with Alan Porter (3-37) and Alan Lord (44) the main highlights. See the Reports Section for more details.

Player Profiles Updated

Quite a few people lately have been mentioning that the Player Profiles section of the website is a little out of date, both in terms of the photos and the profiles themselves, as well as which players are current, and which are past. With this in mind, the whole section has been updated with a few new profiles added. Obviously we can't have a profile for every member of the club, but we've tried to to get something for all of the players playing regularly for the top two teams, as well as a selection of some of the players from the lower XIs. If anyone spots any innacuracies, or if they'd like their own profile and are happy to write it themself, then please can they drop us an email at the usual address. Also, we should have a full update from the weekend's fixtures by Tuesday Morning if all goes well, so watch this space.

12th May 2007

2 Rain Affected Draws

It was a weekend where rain was the clear winner, with the 1st XI's game dominated by the weather away to Old Lyonians. Starting late, means that we only had 23 overs to chase down 190 having to settle for 97-3. It could have been so different after Mark Varley (6-59), and Wali Khan dominated proceedings with the new ball to reduce the hosts to 70-7. It took a late display of hitting from Lyonians tail enders to ensure that they got 5 points for the draw. The 2nd XI had to hang on for a draw, with Daz Sivathasan and Martin Loveday blocking out 7 overs at the end against South Hampstead. The same two players were also the pick of our bowling in a game that was more of a contest than the 1st XI, but again was rain affected. The 4th XI slipped up badly to Mill Hill Village 3rd XI, who looked very strong, and other than that, all weekend games fell foul of the poor weather. See the Reports Section for more details.

5th May 2007

Weekend of Inter Club Cricket

Saturday was an interesting day for the club, the last weekend of pre-season friendlies before the league campaign starts; it was time for the skippers of 4 of our 5 league XIs to take a look at as many players as possible for the upcoming season. With that in mind, we organised a 1st XI vs. 2nd XI game on the main square, and a 4th XI vs. 5th XI on the small square. Starting with the first game, the 1st XI took immediate control, with Dave Hinnigan and Adeel Saeed opening up, the latter going on to be retired on 74. With everyone chipping in, an impressive total of 264-8 was achieved. Pick of the bowlers for the 2nd XI was Daz Sivathasan, who returned figures of 3-68. In reply, Mark Varley stole the show, as he bowled out the 2nd XI top order on a bouncy track, taking 5-41 in the process. Danny Muschamp provided some resistance, but the innings ended at 156. On the other pitch, the 4th XI, batting first racked up an impressive 300-6, with 50's from Amir Sohail and Glenn Brown. Tony Kershaw returned good figures of 4-58 for the 5th XI. In reply, they made 228, mostly thanks to Paul Baker (83), who shared an impressive 60 run partnership with skipper David Sans. Archie McArthur was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5-24 with his line and length stuff. On Sunday, the 2nd XI took on West London, who made 189, Chat Gallage taking 3-52. We chased this down with 5 wickets to spare thanks to Dave Rai (59) and Edgar Berridge hitting an unbeaten 62. The 3rd XI slipped up against Belmont and Edgware, making 190, but being chased down for the loss of 6. See the Reports Section for more details.

Positive Start to Season 2007

A good start to the season this one, with all 3 XIs taking on Highgate, and something close to a first choice top 2 teams being put out, as the club looks to set the tone and compete across all teams this season. Starting with Kevin Lawrence's 1st XI, making the trip around to Highgate, and bowling first, Danny Hare impressed with the ball, taking 5, and was ably supported by Julian Fletcher and Mark Varley. Chasing down 180 was always going to be tough on a slow, turning pitch, but Adeel Saeed, Gavin Mardell and Dave Rai all chipped in with scores, and Danny Hare provided the finish, hitting a brutal unbeaten 55 from around 30 balls. The 2nd XI hosted the same opposition, and again bowled first, with John Street bowling tidily on his return to action, and skipper Stavros Elia and Daz Sivathasan's off spin proving very useful in the middle of the innings. Chasing down 190 was tricky and despite some starts, nobody fired. It took number 8, Atif Butt to crash an unbeaten 78 full of stroke play to swing the game our way, and we won by 2 wickets in fading light. The 3rd XI fared rather badly, slipping to a 140 run defeat to a very strong-looking Highgate 3rd XI, but despite this, it was a positive start to a promising season. See the Reports Section for more details.
