Player Profiles[A-G] [H-O] [P-Z] [Past Players] Dave BakerNicknames: MC-Hammer
Dave is quite simply a run-out waiting to happen. A very good cricketer, prolific in the middle XIs with both bat and ball, Dave is somewhat deaf, and as such find is very hard to respond to calls, leading to all sorts off comedy run-outs from time to time. That said, in the 2006 season, Dave notched up over 2000 runs, a club record aggregate, ensuring that he achieved this by playing in every possible game, Saturday, Sunday and midweek. He's also a fantastic catcher of a cricket ball, and it's a rare occasion that he spills a catch. Prabhu BalachandiranNicknames: Prabsticks
Confirmed his ECC legend status by taking 5 wickets against Old Lyonians in 2006, leading to chants of 'we all agree that Prabhu is better than Kumar' from his team mates. As well as being a very good off spinner, Prabhu is a competitive fielder, and a decent batsman - a real asset to the team. At the time of writing, he is planning to return to the club for a second season as 1st XI overseas player, which should prove to be a popular choice with his team mates. Alan BarnardNicknames: Barney, Bernard, Keeno, Boring
Has played for the club from the age of seven, playing for all colts teams, Barney has been a first team regular since 1995. A solid middle order batsman, and an excellent covers fielder, he's also a bowling option from time to time with his medium pace. Off the field Barnard has become something of a admin specialist, collecting the subs and fines for the 1st XI, and boring the rest of his team mates with takes of his sixes against Enfield in a six-a-side tournament. Barnard used to be seen frequenting top London nightspot O'Rafferties with Dave Smith and Martin Loveday, the closure of which he's not fully recovered from. Tim BeedenNicknames: Rudolph, Beedo, Perv
A former 1st team great, Tim is now plying his trade in the 2nd XI, after his love of pies and kebabs led to a large question mark hanging over his fitness. Tim is an accomplished Opening batsman, who is also comfortable coming in lower down the order. Has made some very big scores for the 1st XI, but should really record a big score more often given his ability. One of the best slip fielders in the league, and in his younger years also useful in the covers, with a very safe pair of hands. Recently moved into a house 10 minutes walk from the club but still asks for lifts or drive to home games. Tim has also purchased shares in Australian pie maker Mrs Mack, as well as being an advisor to the board of directors at Ginsters, Pukka and Fray Bentos. Micky BillsonNicknames: Big Cheese, Spikey
Another ex-colt, versatile Cheesy Bilson has played in every XI over the past few seasons and not looked out of place. An unortadox hard hitting batsman Micky wastes no time in smashing the ball to all corners of the ground. He is also an excellent fielder, and a good seam bowler. Off the pitch, Mick is a comedy genius - one of the key contributors to the clubs internet forum, he is always on hand to wind everyone up in some way or another. For the record, as far as I know nobody has the first clue as to how he has acquired the name Cheese. Tony BrownNicknames: Farmer
Tony Brown is another member of the Saturday 5th XI, having played for the club for many years. Towards the end of his cricketing career, Tony is a decent top order batsman, and has been known to turn his arm over at times. Off the field, Tony can often be found propping up the bar with Roger Sans and also occupies the post of club treasurer, and compiles the club averages, something that he does very efficiently. Pat CarrNicknames: Khazi
Former 2nd XI vice skipper, and fines man, Pat has been one of the most consistent batsmen for the second team over the last few years since he joined the club, in addition to topping the club bowling averages for season 2001. Most comfortable against the quicks, he's a solid opener, and has been an integral part of the 2nd XI's rise from 3rd division in the Middlesex Championship to the County League in 3 seasons under the leadership of Kevin Lawrence. Andy CooperNicknames: BUPA, Jolly, Smiler
Product of the ECC colts set-up, in the same age group as Adam Bilimoria, BUPA has been one of the most committed clubmen over the last 10 years, always willing to lend a hand with the colts, or the senior admin. Former 2nd XI captain, which was perhaps the highlight of his cricketing career so far, has recently exploded back on the scene after a self imposed absence to crash 100 for the 5th XI. Renowned for his strokeplay (even if much of it is to totally the wrong balls), when he's in form, there are few batsmen as attractive or as destructive. Is know for his penchant for the older lady, as well as going a record 9 years between 1997 and 2006 without smiling once. A true ECC legend! Ciaran DoddsNicknames: Doddsey, Wrong-un
Ciaran is another of our youngsters playing for the senior teams, ex-captain of the under 17s, he is a promising medium fast swing bowler who can be dangerous to batsman if he sticks to the right line and length. He is more than capable of throwing the bat in the lower order, and has an excellent arm. Ciaran is another player who needs to curb his temper a little - one day he may realise that he's got more chance of an umpire giving a decision in his favour if he doesn't shower them with abuse for getting it wrong. Stavros EliaNicknames: Bubble, Princess
Stavros is another experienced member of the club, who has taken up the 2nd XI leadership for the 2007 season. Stav has improved his off spin bowling dramatically over the last few years. As well as being an excellent gulley / slips fielder Stav can also bat, and often contributes valuable runs in the lower middle order. Stav can also boast the somewhat questionable honour of being arguably the finest player produced by the hotbed of cricket that is Cyprus. Julian FletcherNicknames: Jules, Keeno
A new recruit for the 2007 season, South African Julian Fletcher responded to an advert for new players on Church Street, and impressed the 1st XI skipper at his first nets session enough for him to pick him in the 1st XI. An aggressive top order batsman, off spinner and a good fielder, Jules is a fine asset to the team. What's more, he's also a personal trainer by trade, so takes the warm-up and may possibly end up getting some of the less fit members of the club into shape with his motivational skills. Off the field, he's fitting in quite nicely, with a couple of late night drinking sessions at the club already under his belt, and many more to come, I'm sure. Kevin FursseNicknames: Furssey
As of the 2007 season, Furssey is the ECC club Chairman, and has proved forward-thinking in a role that was always going to be tough with an act like Dick Owen to follow. As well as that, he captains the 4th XI in the 1987 league, usually opening the batting with his solid, compact left handed style. A real clubman, Kev formerly umpired for the 1st XI for several years in the 1990's. Chat GallageNicknames: Ga-Large
The other half of the keenest cricketers in Edmonton partnership with Ash Perera, Chat is a popular member of club, and another successful product of the Edmonton youth set-up. Bowling off spin primarily, with lots of energy, Chat is also a useful middle order batsman, who is not afraid to throw his bat, and play his shots, as well as a very vocal member of the side in the field. Possibly one of the few players in need of losing a few pounds, Chat is rather fond of his tea and isn't shy of the odd trip to McDonalds at the close of play. Some observers would also argue that the Sri Lankan superstar should spend more time on his fielding, after some suspect displays in the outfield. Chris GoddardNicknames: Bandit
Young wicketkeeper Chris has managed to establish himself as the first choice for the 2nd XI, after some assured displays behind the stumps. As well as a good keeper, Chris is a hard-hitting middle order batsman, who given a bit of patience, could develop into an excellent batsman. In addition to this, Chris's Mum also makes very good food - an added bonus with the likes of Beeden and Barney around. Chris is in the same age group as Ciaran Dodds and Mark Varley, and is another of the many players to make the step up from colts to senior cricket. |
