Player Profiles[A-G] [H-O] [P-Z] [Past Players] Daniel HareNicknames: Firestarter, Rabbit
All-rounder Danny Hare is one of the most promising young cricketers in the club. Having already played for the 1st XI for a number of seasons, he is beginning to fulfil some of his potential by scoring consistently, and bowling tightly. He is also arguably the best fielder in the club, comfortable in any position, but specialising at short leg or in the covers. That said, he is nothing short of a nightmare off the field, with his boozy antics and suspect driving. In all fairness, he's better now than he was a couple of years ago, but he's still got a long way to go to be classed as sensible. James HazellNicknames:
James is another product of the ECC youth set up, and has worked his way through the teams to play for the 2nd XI on a fairly regular basis. Originally a leg spinner, James has become more of a batsman, hitting the ball as hard as anyone at the club, often very strong on the leg side. In recent seasons, James has been bowling a little more, proving that his leg-spin is quite a useful wicket taking weapon. Adam HerronNicknames: Herring, Pants, Double R
The revelation of the 2000 season, Adam is one of the best batsman in the club, as well as being another home-grown player. Starting off as a keeper / lower order batsman, he has progressed up the order, and never looked out of place. Behind the stumps, Adam is at his best standing back to the quicks, but has taken some excellent stumpings in recent seasons, and has cemented his place as wicketkeeper, and one of the best batsmen in the 1st XI. Off the field, he is beginning to shed his reputation as most annoying first teamer, but still has a way to go! Definitely the loudest player in the league. David HinniganNicknames: Dodgy
Dave was the youngest member of the 1st XI squad for season 2001, after joining us the season before from North Enfield. He is a technically correct top order batsman, who worked his way through the colts and lower XI's and has comfortably make the transition to the 1st XI, where he has made the opening slot his own. Dave can be prone to lapses of concentration in the field, as well as the occasional moment of brilliance (earning the nickname of Dodgy along the way), and in recent seasons, his bowling has improved immeasurably ever since he bowled a former England captain all ends up to win a 6-a-side tournament. Ses Jayasena(Adam Herron Legends of ECC #2) Nicknames: Jaya, Legend
Having joined us at the start of the 2001 season, Ses, is an excellent attacking opening batsman, a very good fielder and swing bowler, as well as being able wicketkeeper to boot. Has been playing on Sundays in recent seasons due to commitments on Saturdays, where his attacking instincts have proven well suited to limited overs cricket. Ses is often first to the bar after the match, and enjoys a beer or two with the rest of the team - an all round top man! Legends of ECC Profile: Nicknamed 'the Sri Lankan Legend' Ses has long been admired at Edmonton with his excellent batting performances, quality fielding and good swing bowling. Joining the club from Sudbury Court at the start of the 2001 season Ses eased his way into the first team with a number of solid batting displays and hasn't looked back since. This season has seen him hit some big scores notably a 99 against British Airways which was one of the best innings in recent memory with some powerful hitting right from the first ball and some massive sixes to boot. It should also be mentioned that Ses is only about 5 foot 5 but never wears a helmet, even on some of the real dodgy wickets we have played on, and so it could be said he is Edmonton CC's very own Viv Richards! A quality gulley fielder, Ses has again been invaluable in this position taking some good catches and also stopping many a ball that looked destined to go for four. His bowling hasn't been to his usual standard this season but with his game so good in the other departments and the fact that he's a legend we can overlook this small matter! Ses is also famed for being able to tell if a player is a good cricketer or not just by watching him run! He has had us all in stitches many a time this season when asked, 'what about him?' with Ses simply giving a shake of the head while screwing his face up. With his infectious laughter it is hard to be down when Ses is around and long away journeys can pass in what seems like a matter of minutes while Ses makes everyone laugh with his quirky outlook on life and funny sayings. Also when Ses stays for a few drinks in the bar after a game he is the life and soul of the party and some memorable nights have been down to him getting the party started. Wali KhanNicknames:
A new player for the 2006 season, Wali proved to be a firm favourite with the 1st XI with his electric pace, aggressive hitting, and all round enthusiasm. Hailing originally from the hotbed of cricket that is Afghanistan, Wali is a keen as anyone to play cricket, and always wants to play the most aggressive game possible. The peak of his time at the club so far has to be his explosive 80 in 35 balls against Twickenham in 2006, and his intimidating spell against Old Lyonians in the same season, where we wrapped up an unlikely 60 run win. Kevin LawrenceNicknames: Beefy, Mr Aggro, Skip
1st XI captain for the 2007 season, Kevin is looking to install the same commitment and belief in the first team that he did so successfully in the 2nd XI between 2002 and 2005. During his time in charge of the 2nd XI, he achieved promotion in 3 consecutive seasons, bringing County League cricket back to Hydeside for the first time in most peoples memories. Kevin is a solid middle order batsman, and is also a much underrated off spinner, who can keep it tight, and take wickets. Arguably Kevins best asset is his never-say-die attitude, and motivational skills which make him an ideal captain. His track record speaks for itself. Martin LovedayNicknames: Monster, Lovers
Yet another product of the Edmonton CC Colts section, Martin has held down the opening bowling slot for the Second team for a couple of years now, with good pace and an improving line and length. He has also made a number of appearances for the 1st XI, impressing regularly with the ball. Martin is also a solid fielder, and can swing the bat in the lower order to good effect. Off the field he has gained a deserved reputation as something of a beer-monster, and can often be found in the bar keeping pace with the likes of Roger and Colin in the heavyweight drinking stakes. Steve LovedayNicknames:
Older brother of Martin, Steve is a steady off break bowler, who returned to the club in 2005 after an absence of 5 years after originally starting his cricket career as a colt at Southgate. A regular fixture in the middle XIs, Steve is a solid cricketer, and a good club man to boot, and is one of the 4th XI members that you can count on being at the bar after the match with the likes of Archie McArthur. Gavin MardellNicknames: Mini-Smith
Also known as Mini-Smith, Gav is a fluent opening batsman, and occasional off break bowler who has progressed through the Colts setup to play regularly for the top XIs. Gav is not known for his enthusiasm for the game, but always seems to play every match - despite retiring at least once a season. Seems a lot more stable than he used to be, but is prone to losing the plot at least once a game, mainly at opposition players that score runs or take wickets when not being 'proper' cricketers. The fortunes of the Hungry Horse in Edmonton have taken a downturn since Gavin moved to Winchmore Hill last year. Archie McArthurNicknames: Ooochie, Leslie Phillips
A real ECC legend, Archie is a stalwart of Saturday and Sunday cricket, most often playing for the 4th XI on a Saturday. With his band of nagging medium pace, he is very affective at whatever level of cricket he plays, and makes life difficult for any batsment as soon as they get to the crease. Archie's crowning glory was taking all 10 wickets in a 1987 league game last season, something that nobody in living memory has achieved for ECC, and was thoroughly deserved. After the game, Archie is never far away from the bar, and is as much a social fixture of ECC as he is a playing fixture. Linserd MillerNicknames: Wickets
One of the West Indian contingent of ECC, Lins is a popular member of the club, captaining the 3rd XI, and regularly attending committee. He has also recently been voted in as a vice president of the club, having been playing for almost 10 years now. On the field, Linserd bowls very accurate, very nagging off spin, and would be a nightmare to face for all but the most patient of batsmen. Lins is a wicket machine, playing both days at the weekend, and is usually competing with Archie McArthur for top wicket taker at the club by the end of the season. Danny MuschampNicknames: Mushy, Ninja
Danny is yet another product of the Edmonton Cricket Club colts section, and is one of the most promising youngsters at the club, having picked up the 2004 Young Player of the Year Award. Dan is a promising opening batsman, who is not afraid of playing his shots, and throwing the bat. He's also an asset with the ball, bowling tidy medium paced swing. Dan has a lot to live up to off the field, being grandson of current club president Micky Smyth, he needs to work hard practicing his one-liners so that he can speak at the dinner in years to come. |
