Player Profiles[A-G] [H-O] [P-Z] [Past Players] Ash PereraNicknames:
A member of the 2006 season's under 17 squad that did so well in the Middlesex league and cup, Ash is one of the most promising talents to come through the colts in the last few seasons. With his medium pace swing bowling, and impressive strokeplay, he looks to be one of the key members of the top teams in the club for years to come. Best mates with Chat Gallage, the two of them are rarely out of their whites, and rarely not training or playing. Dave RaiNicknames:
Dave Rai joined us at the start of the 2006 season, stating that he was a batsman, neglecting to mention the fact that his is a very accomplished wicketkeeper. That said, he is a decent middle order batsman, who is not afraid to play his shots to both quick and spin bowling. When he his behind the stumps though, he comes into his own, standing up to all but the quickest bowling, and making sure that he keeps the whole team on their toes, and buzzing around the field. Simon RocheNicknames: Cocker, Rochey
Brother of Neil, Simon is the batsman of the family, a solid opening batsman, who is very technically correct, Simon looks comfortable against the best bowling the league has to offer. A good fielder, and also a good bowling alternative with his medium paced swing, which has been used to great effect in recent seasons. Off the field, Simon's lady, Kate is the 1st XI's biggest fan, Si has struck gold to be honest, she drives him to matches, sits and watches, and has a few beers with us after the game - she even brought a jug the other season - fair play! Adeel SaeedNicknames: Addy
Adeel arrived at the club in 2004, and nobody realised quite how good a batsman he was. It's something of a minor miracle that he joined us, as he was living in East Ham after moving over here from Lahore to study. A fixture as an opening batsman in the Saturday 1st XI, and an all round nice guy, we hope that Adeel is with us for years to come. David SansNicknames: Camber
Camber as he is affectionately known is something of an ECC legend, a status which was boosted when he became the first skipper of our 5th XI league team. Not the most gifted batsman, if his season average creeps over 1, bowlers around the county will feel that they've missed out somewhat. Camber is more affective with the ball though, picking up wickets whenever he plays, with his slow, looping medium pace. Highlight of his career so far was being on a hat trick against Ickenham 1st XI in the Chess Valley league, at which point, most of his team mates had mobbed him, causing a mass bundle in the middle of the square. Daz SivathasanNicknames: Dazzler, Wookie
A constant thorn in Tim Beeden's side when it comes to both on and off the field matters, Daz is a non stop wind up machine, but as most people would agree, and all round good bloke. Originally joined the club in 1994, he had a break from cricket for a few years, and made a comeback in 2005. A little past his best with the bat, but still more than capable of playing an aggressive innings at time, Daz is still a competitive cricketer, bowling quick off spin, and usually in the wickets for the 2nd XI. Dave SmithNicknames: Smithy, Reaper, Retirement
Dave is another player who has progressed through the colts setup, but rarely plays to his undoubted potential. Dave is a solid opening / middle order batsman, as well as being a solid fielder. Another player who has the right sort of attitude on the pitch, Dave will encourage the team regardless of the match position. Dave lives up to his reaper reputation off the pitch, and always seems to retire around May time, after a string of poor scores, he can play though - just ask Hanwell!! John StreetNicknames: Streety, Quality
John is one of the most senior member of the club, and remains one of the best and most consistent bowlers in the league. Streety has made the bottom end his own, bowling consistently up the hill, and using his height to full effect to extract the most out of pitches. Even though he has dropped his pace over recent seasons, he still proves to be a handful to batsmen who struggle to knock him off his line and length. Mark VarleyNicknames: Northern, No Nonsense, Varls
Another product of the Colts setup, northerner Mark claims that he was born in Islington, and has only spent a few years north of the Watford Gap - nobody believes him, as his accent is a broad as they come. On the field, Varley has spearheaded the 1st XI bowling attack since 2006, using his height and pace to great affect on the bouncy Hydeside pitches. Not the most technically gifted batsman in the world, Varley just smashes it, and when he comes off, it can be quite spectacular. Add and excellent arm, and the ability to catch anything and everything, and you've got a winning combination. Tony WillettNicknames: Wills, Catch Like Kenway
First XI captain from 1997 to 2006, Tony has gone from opening bowler to number six batsman, proving he has the all round ability to do both very well. A good thinker, and a captain who has the respect of all his players, Tony captained the team to it's first promotion since 1997 in the 2004 season after a nailbiting finale at Crouch End Calthorpe. When not playing cricket, Tony is either asleep or at the club bar, a fantastic example to youngsters wishing to achieve such high standards of fitness and professionalism. |
