Player ProfilesAdam BilimoriaNicknames: Billy
Another product of the Colts section - coming from the same age group as Chris Stockman, Adam is an exciting opening / middle order batsman, who on his day can be as good as any, and is never afraid to play his strokes. Has not really found any consistent form with the bat over the past few seasons, but given an extended run in the team will no doubt be able to find form again. Off the pitch, Billy is one of the regular wrong-un brigade that did so much to keep O'Raferties in Wood Green in business. Daniel BillsonNicknames: Little Cheese
Son of Big Cheese and Mrs. Cheese, Little Cheese is a top lad, and a very promising batsman. Having worked his way through the junior temas into the senior sides, his very correct style of batting has made him look impressive against good bowling. Not much more to say really, other than we're all hoping that he turns out to be as much of a comedy genius as his dad. If he does, then you might want to start buying shares in shampoo companies. Paul CookeNicknames: Cookie
Cookie is one of the few genuine all-rounders at the club, proving that he is equally as comfortable with both bat and ball. A hard-hitting top / middle order batsman, he can be prone to getting out to spinners, but on his day, can take apart any bowling attack. Paul's bowling is quite an asset; he can swing the ball both ways, and bowls an impeccable line and length, making him very hard to score off. Archer Cornwall(am Herron Legends of ECC #1) Nicknames: Veteran, Ambrosia, Duke
At the tender age of 48 'The Duke of' Cornwall has been there, done that and got the t-shirt. He has played at a high standard for all his adult life and in some of the most competitive leagues around including the Thames Valley League and played for heavyweights such as Hounslow and Finchhampstead. Joining Edmonton CC in the season of 2004 as an unknown quantity he started out in the Saturday 3rd eleven where Skipper Linserd Miller used him to great affect terrorising batsmen who weren't used to such a sustained attack of pace bowling and gradually came to the notice of Sunday 1st eleven skipper Adam Herron who gave him his first taste of 1's cricket at the club. Opening the bowling he proved instrumental in helping the 1's gain promotion in the second half of the season with a number of good performances with the ball and also some great run outs, one being against a top rated Ickenham side where everyone expected him to throw down the stumps at the wicket keepers end only to smash the stumps at the non strikers end. This season has again seen him put in some great performances notably against Preston where he bowled 10 overs for 12 runs taking 4 wickets to boot! He has also come into the Saturday 1st eleven side when asked to and again performed to a high standard both with the ball and fielding in close taking another great run out against Harrow St Mary's. Off the field though is truly where 'Ambrosia' gains his legendary status. Always willing to help with the colts and also playing an instrumental part in the affairs of the club and helping to organise this years President's XI club Caribbean night. Mention must also go to a particular night out with the younger members of the club to Eros Nightclub where he played a big role in making sure all the lads pulled and boogied the night away on the dance floor! Barrat GanjiNicknames: 12th Man Cab Driver
Barratt joined us mid way through the 2002 season. A tidy wicketkeeper and attacking top order batsman, he has already proved invaluable behind the stumps on a number of occasions, snapping up catches with ease. Barratt was born and bread in Australia, and therefore, we would expect him to be a lot better at sledging than he is. Perhaps he could do with taking a few lessons from the master: Ricko. Dominic HarteNicknames: Dom, The Rock
Joined the club mid-way through the 2001 season, a full Irish international (well, almost), Dom turned himself into one of the most consistent performers in the 2nd XI. A steady opening batsman, medium pace swing bowler, and excellent fielder, Dom is one of a few players who helped to turn around the outlook for the 2nds since the 2002 season under the leadership of the then skipper Kevin Lawrence. Ricko LewisNicknames: Throw like a Girl, Sledger
South African slow left armer Ricko Lewis is as good as any spin bowler in the league. He has the ability to bowl tightly to contain batsmen and get through the overs, or to bowl aggressively to take wickets. Another positive cricketer, with the right attitude and will to win, it was a real bonus when Ricko joined us for the 2000 season. Ricko might be South African, but on the field he is more of an Aussie, getting involved with some quality sledging, and generally keeping the rest of the team amused. Sadly, his sledging doesn't stop with the opposition - he's been known to give Edmonton players grief "you throw like a girl" springs to mind! Rajesh PazhassiNicknames: King of Spain, Raji
The star performer for the Saturday League First XI during the 2004 season, Rajesh came to Edmonton on the recommendation of Venki, as an excellent left arm spinner, and solid middle order batsman, and by the end of the season had underline his class with a string of fantastic bowling performances, showing control and wicket taking ability. Rajesh was quick to be accepted as one of the lads in the team, and hit all round commitment, top drawer fielding and positive batting earned the respect of everyone that the club. 47 Saturday wickets at 12.1 speaks for itself, and was instrumental in our successful promotion push. Eswee PrinslooNicknames: Es, Hungry
Hard-hitting South African Es Prinsloo was arguably the find of the season for 2001, topping the club batting averages, and playing some superb innings along the way. A real pleasure to watch, Es's innings have completely demoralised good opposition bowling attacks with some fierce strokeplay and solid defence. Es has a winning attitude on the field, and is a real gentleman off the field, although you get in between him and his tea at your own risk!! Neil RocheNicknames: Cocker, Rochey, Lightweight
Neil is another player that came through the colts ranks in the same age group as his brother Simon and Alan Barnard. Neil is arguably the quickest bowler in the club currently, and on his day, as good as any in the league. Lacking slightly in fitness, Neil looks good for short spells, and given the right wicket (and a tailwind), can trouble batsman with his pace and hostility. Sadly, Neil is less renowned for his batting, which would not look out of place in David Sans's Saturday 5th XI, The one time Neil did open the batting, vs. Myddleton House, he scored about 30 runs, all of which came through second slip. Anil SharmaNicknames:
Anil was the 2nd XI's overseas player from the 2002 season until 2005, arriving at the club on a recommendation from Venki. He is an excellent all round cricketer, and a top bloke to boot. Anil is a class opening or early order batsman who is comfortable in attack and defence, and his bowling is excellent, sticking to a probing line and length and getting through the overs quickly. Chris StockmanNicknames: Peanuts Another former colt, who has progressed into an excellent 1st / 2nd team batsman, Chris has been at the club for nearly 18 years. He is comfortable either opening or in the middle order, and is a useful short leg fielder. Chris's reputation for eating snack food has earned him the nickname peanuts, which he feels obliged to live up to whenever he is not on the field. Balajisubram VenkateshNicknames: Venki
Overseas player for season 2001 - 2003, returning to the club in 2005, Venki has been arguably the best batsman in the club, and probably the best batsmen in any division of the league - a real find. Hailing for Chennai in Southern India, he looks equally at ease playing against spin or quicks, and has made some important scores at No. 3 or opener to get us into good positions. Venki has kept wicket for much of his time at Edmonton, and looks highly accomplished, although he is also a good outfielder, and may also be called upon to bowl with the return of Adam Herron behind the stumps. Off the field, Venki is one of the boys, always sticking around for a few beers, although his liking of Bollywood musicals at 8am doesn't do much to help a hangover. Matt WortonNicknames: The Rage, Mr Angry, Matty
Another product of our Colts section, Matt has matured into arguably the best quick bowler in the club. With the ability to move the ball off the seam both ways, swinging it, and a nagging line and length, Matt is an effective wicket taker who does not concede many runs. As sharp as any in the gulley or slips, Matt is also able to contribute with the bat, although possibly should go on to make a score more often. Off the field, Matt is a nutter, his road rage is legendary, and on more than one occasion his passengers have been treated for concussion after he negotiated a set of speed humps at about 40mph, causing them to head but the ceiling of the car - don't travel to away matches with him! |
